Im starting to wonder if this is just simply a quirk of this engine and its appearance is part of things wearing in.

I really dont think it's a cause of the engine wearing in. If that were the case the first engine I had replaced wouldn't have knocked right off the lot with 10km on the odometer. And the second longblock replacement wouldn't have been needed right away because the first replacement was a dud. Lucky the third replacement fixed the problem. IMO its not an issue of breaking in or wear on the engine. Just that some HR16DE have this problem and some don't. Really as simple as that I think.
Of course the noise is not normal.
On my engine there was damage on main bearings and crank at cyl 2.
Now after the overhaul noise has been reduced more than 90%, you dont replace crank rods pistons rings for a loose heat shield.
They are using bad quality parts that dont have the right size producing bad clearences and also have 0 qc at factory.
Here there are 2 options.
Get rid of the car.
Ensure you have your engine fixed or replaced as many times as needed until you get a non knocking one.

Sounds like your thinking of keeping your Micra now. You should put a pic in the garage.
no i wont keep the march.
i havent traded it yet because there is no stock of the swift sport zc32s, next shippment wont arrive until late may, 100% made in japan, they only import a few units each year.
i have posted some pictures of the car in some topics like the led lightning topic or the exhaust tip topic.
i think is almos the same as the one sold there but it has chrome door handle.
here my friend was trying to perform an exorcism to see if the rod knock goes away with his honda parasols lol

Yeah I heard Hondas hardly ever get possesed. Well good luck with your new honda and take care. All the best to you in the future.
Sincerely Moose
i wont be buying a honda lol, its a suzuki, suzuki swift sport, the honda is from a friend.
that honda is also made in mexico (quality is a lot better than in the march, but "shares" some rattles, it has the mexican signature lol), swift is made in japan, much better assembly.
in any case i wont left the forum, i will continue sharing experiences and trying to help members.

Share Suzuki experiences? Why would you do that on a Micra forum?
no, share micra experiences.
until i have the car traded in i will take it again to dealership and they will continue checking for leaks, also after 1000k they will check the compression, and i will also ask the chief for example if nissan had released a bulletin saying that from hr16xxxxxx number problem is solved.
they did that with the tiida, at present they told me despite they are now recognizing the problem, there is no official report saying the problem was solved at the factory.

Ah I see. Maybe you will change your mind by then. Lots of folks here keeping their Micra even after having it fixed. Lots of community building going on.
.you will miss that
