something holding me back from buying...help

So after doing some reading and comparing...ive had some setbacks with my purchase of the micra.

The micra we got is really the same thing europe got back in 2010. Theres minor changes yes but its something thats 5 years old. Problem 2 is just a fear of what happens to the micra if sales fail...do they scrap the project and leave the car in mexico (where its sold/made). I personally love the micra but a mazda dealeris offering me 2000$ for my crappy rusting sentra (if i buy the mazda 3hatch) where nissn pretty much said no thanks. Bah everything with the micra spills cheap...insurance, payments, you name it...but is it really worth it in the long run?...help me guys lol!

    1. Being based on a proven platform isn't a bad thing.

    2. Many components are shared with the Versa.

    3. Mazda 3's have serious rust issues - google Mazda 3 rust to see pages and pages.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

I think the Micra is going to be a success for Nissan in Canada. 200 cars sold in its first partial month (without even advertising it!) is already on par with its closest established competitors.

Also if someone is offering you $2k for a "crappy rusty" car... if it's more than it's actually worth, you gotta figure you're paying for the difference in the price of the new car!

Speaking from a dealer perspective, you have to understand how dealers do this. Dealers get rebates that they can apply however they like. They can tell you straight up, or not. These rebates are especially useful for showing more for trades. I can show you $12,000 for your trade. You'd think something is up right? You're right. If you buy a titan, there is 12,000 rebate right now. If we show it as trade value, it makes the customer feel valued.

People rather see 2,000 more for their trade then 2,000 discount. There's emotional attachment to the trade, and the value you receive, and you perceive the dealer to be more "fair".

We all use the same books and call the same people to assess trade value. Value will vary between a few hundred dollars. What you "See" changes. Unfortunately, a lot of people still arent aware of this and get taken in by "push, pull or drag" sales all the time.

Nobody plays this better than Mazda...but considering how badly their own cars rust out after a very short period of time (but just outside of the warranty), it's no wonder they put a premium on rust.
