UPDATE: Micra-Forum's fuel economy tracker is now online.

Start recording your results here: Micra Fuel Economy Log

Step 1: enter your car details
Step 2: add your fill-up data

    -----

I hope you early owners will share your fuel economy results with the rest of us.

Since the Micra has a built in resettable fuel consumption display, we luckily don't have to wait until fill-up time to know how the car is doing, but the most accurate results only come from recording your distance & fuel use each time you fill up.

(The onboard gauge isn't dead accurate. Some owners have reported 5-10% error. It was 4.5% optimistic in the SR automatic I borrowed from Nissan.)

    My own results:

    Car
    Fuel Economy Details
    Micra SR
    automatic
5.4 L/100 km = 52.3 mpg (Imperial) = 43.6 mpg (US) 2 fill-ups over 940.5 km (584 mi.) in this Micra on loan from Nissan. Using basic eco-driving techniques, summer weather.
    Micra S
    manual
5.1 L/100 km = 55 mpg Imperial = 46 mpg US = 19.6 km/L Non-eco-driving in and around Cornwall, Ont. Cool, fall conditions. (Reading taken from onboard display, which is ~5% optimistic.) See thread: Micra manual vs. automatic MPG/fuel economy comparison
    Micra SR
    automatic
5.6 L/100 km = 50 mpg Imperial = 42 mpg US Eco-driving in and around Montreal. Summer weather. (Reading taken from onboard display, which is ~5% optimistic.) See: ecodriving a 5-speed and automatic Micra in Montreal
    Micra SV
    manual
    5.1 L/100 km = 55 mpg Imperial = 46 mpg US Same as above

Fuel economy computer in a Micra SR automatic after a 120 km trip in warm, dry weather, driving near the 80 km/h speed limit.

The Micra's MPG ratings should be easy to beat...

The Micra is the first Canadian car that is subject to the revised NRCAN "5-cycle" fuel consumption testing methods, which apply starting with the 2015 model year (and which are the same as the U.S. EPA's current testing method).

My experience is that it's pretty easy to beat the new ratings, unless...

You tend to "drive it like you stole it"; or you travel well over the speed limit on the highway; or you face a LOT of stop & go traffic; or you drive mostly short trips (eg. a few km) so the car spends a high proportion of its time driving "cold".

I've started using Fuelly. Mixed driving, highway, city, stop and go traffic, backroads, and, according to Fuelly (and my own calculations), I've been achieving 6.3L/100km, which blows away the EPA ratings.

The car's computer estimates are generous, reporting 5.8L/100km on average. This is only my second fill-up, I'll have to see how it performs once the engine is broken in.

hey Darin, I assume the idea is to post mpg here and edit subsequent results into ones original post?

These are actual mpg, driving for break-in the first few tanks.

Tank 1: 46+ mpg 50/50 hwy/city, unknown how full my ''full'' tank from dealer was.
    Tank 2: 51.44 mpg 60/40
    Tank 3: 53.56 mpg 50/50
    Tank 4: 52.09 mpg 50/50
    Tank 5: 55.32 mpg 50/50
    Tank 6: 52.37 mpg 60/40
    Tank 7: 51.23 mpg 60/40 *different pump*
    Tank 8: 55.15 mpg 60/40
    Tank 9: 54.77 mpg 60/40
    Tank 10: 52.92 mpg 60/40 *different pump*

    EDIT:
Well that's it, i'm calling it good at ten tanks. That's easily an average of 50mpg even when you take into account the wonky speedo/odometer. If I get a chance to hyper mile a tank, I will check mpg and post the results.

Aftica, is that a Canadian gallon, or a US gallon?

I noticed that, when coasting down-hill, if I don't press the clutch and leave it in gear, my fuel consumption goes to 0 on the instant fuel economy monitor.

That's Imperial gallons, and assuming the speedo is reading correctly I've not bothered to check the onboard calculator yet.

Noting mileage and fuel quantity at each fill-up and averaging over time is apparently the only reliable method of establishing fuel economy.

Also, calculating in imperial gallons looks way better than does using US gallons.

I'm going to add a fuel economy tracking feature to the forum before the end of this month. Keep your gas receipts & kms per fill-up!

Fuelly is OK, but it doesn't break down the results very well (ie. you can't sort Micra results by engine size or transmission type, and some owners don't even indicate which one they have), so it's not very useful looking at their aggregate results.

Ours will be better in that respect.

Darin, with all due respect, there's only one 2015 Micra at Fuelly, so it should be fairly easy right now to break down the results by engine size (1.6L) and transmission type (5 speed).

All kidding aside, I look forward to your implementation. Perhaps you could make it link to Fuelly results?

You're absolutely right! We've got about a 6 month window of "clean" stats on Fuelly before other 2015 Micras from around the world make it hard/impossible to separate out the various powertrain differences.

With my european 1.2L, I managed 4,4L/100km with cruise control. But with daily city use it's about 6,4L/100km.
