Because You're mine, I tow the line...installing 4 pin trailer lights

I've got a 1 1/4" hitch on my Micra, I use it for my 2 bike bike rack, it works well. I'd been wanting to install a 4 pin trailer light connector to either add auxiliary lights to the bike rack (it somewhat covers the stock ones) or to tow a very small boat trailer.
I did not want to use a universal unit where I would have to splice wires.
Of course Curt did not list a part for the Micra because it is a company out of the states.

I figured that Nissan would probably use tail light and electrical loom parts in the Micra already used somewhere else in their product line.
It took a bit of research on the intrawebs, but the taillight connectors looked the same on the Versa sedan as on the Micra. (Different from the Versa Note, however.)

I found a company in the lower mainland that would allow me to order in the Versa "T" connector Curt model that fits inline and uses the stock custom connectors, and return it if it didn't work, minus a 10% restocking fee.

    Guess what....

    It works!

    Pics to follow.

The correct part number is Curt #56185

    Thanks, woofer!

It's funny how everyone has to be a pioneer with this car and figure things out.

Please post a pic when you get some lights on there. (Also if you stick a trailer on as well. I have also towed a very light (160 lbs empty) trailer with a small car, even though it's not rated for it.)

I guess depending on what the hitch was connected to, I see no reason why the micra couldn't tow a small trailer.

    If A smart car can..

I guess as long as your not over the recommended maximum load of I believe 900lbs you should be good ( that includes people). Thanks for figuring that out, this should be added to the mods!

I've towed with my Torrent well in excess of its rated capacity, but that was over a short distance on level, paved roads (nearly 2 cubic yards of gravel) with no ill effect. You really need to plan your stopping, though.

I'm certain the Micra's engine could handle a tow capacity that would put undue stress on the brakes and frame.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

The rear springs in this car are well suited to light towing. It does make getting 3-18' 3"x12" cedar lumber home rather easy.

Does installing a trailer hitch avoid warranty on the micra

No. Lots of people put hitches on cars so they can add rear-mounted bike racks -- they never tow.
