Yeah, that's a bit unusual to North Americans: In Europe the Micra 160SR 1.6L was only sold with a manual transmission, and the same seems to be the case for the current gen. K13 Micra/March in some south American countries.

real world mileage from Versa sedan 1.6L owners: exact same average as Euro Micra 1.6

Same drivetrain as the Canadian Micra: these reports are from 2012-2014 Versa 1.6L sedans, mostly in the U.S.

Note: only manual results are given, because Fuelly doesn't distinguish between 4-speed automatic and CVT's, which makes those figures no good.

L/100 km MPG (US) MPG (Imperial) Trans. Notes Source
    5.2 45.2 54.3 5MT Mixed driving: 2014 Versa sedan - "turtle" Fuelly
    7.6 30.8 37 5MT Mixed driving: 2014 Versa sedan 1.6 - "black versa" same
    7.0 33.5 40.2 5MT Mixed driving: 2014 Versa sedan 1.6 "frumpy" same
    6.0 39 46.9 5MT Mixed driving: 2014 Versa sedan 1.6 "nismo blue" same
    7.5 31.5 37.9 5MT Mixed driving: 2013 Versa sedan 1.6 "charles" same
    7.0 33.6 42 5MT Mixed driving: 2012 Versa sedan 1.6 "mini gt-r" same
    6.71 35.6 43.1 Average

Noteable: the average manual driver is handily beating the EPA's rating for the 1.6L Versa of 30 mpg (US) combined.

Also - notice they're getting an identical average as the 1.6L Micra (K12) drivers, above.

UPDATE: here's an average for 14 Versa sedans with "Automatic" specified. Note it doesn't specify 4-speed or CVT though:

L/100 km MPG (US) MPG (Imperial) Trans. Notes Source
    7.2 32.7 39.2 Auto. Average
    .................................................. ...
    Fuelly

The manual drivers are beating the car's EPA rating by 19%. The Automatic drivers are only over by 9%.

Those numbers seem pretty decent considering your estimated ratings. I wonder if they were trying to get good fuel economy, or just driving (in the 1st post videos)? We know that can make a HUGE difference in the mileage you get.

I think the numbers just tell us what we already know: if you want good fuel economy, get the manual. In the hands of a motivated "eco-driver" it will almost always give you better results than the automatic, even if the automatic rating is the same or even a bit better.

With a manual it's always easier to exceed the official rating by a larger margin than an automatic, due to the way manuals are driven for government fuel economy tests.

UPDATE: I added the automatic transmission average to the post above to prove the point. Manual Versa drivers are beating the manual rating by 19%. Automatic drivers by 9%.

Note it's probably a mix of 4-speed and CVT automatics, which actually skews the results higher than if it were 4-speeds alone (because the CVT is way more efficient than the 4-speed).

Ouch, 32.7 mpg? Not so hot from a small car. The average of the 5mts looks in the high 30s, thats a huge difference in fuel usage!

Versa Note 1.6 real world numbers

I was going to dig through Fuelly to see what kinds of numbers the 1.6L 5-speed drivers were getting (should be very close to Micra numbers).

But that site drives me nuts. If there's no transmission listed, we can't really use the numbers. And the only ones that ARE listed are automatic (which is CVT only in the Note, so not comparable to the Micra).

I'll go check over at fueleconomy.gov. Some owners report there, too...
