I guess I should get winter tires next year. The dealership's OEM Firetire tires were useless and Micra was sliding left & right in Richmond. I have to park at Richmond walmart & took skytrain home.

good lord Wark, Richmond is flat as a pancake!!!...the "toe to toe with jeep" was on 14" walmart snowtires, 2-3 years old, 75 % tread, shows what a difference the tires make i guess, if you had trouble
    2015 Micra S (manual)
    no A/C /no power options/ block heater/4x 2 Ohm speakers...all factory stock in 2015
    Feb 2015 build
    9,999 purchase price + tax..no additional 1600$ because it was a 2015 purchased in 2016
so receipt says $8,399....+1600 .... so they look good i guess...for a brand new car!

Picked up some Hankook Ipike snow tires on clearance from Can Tire, as well as a rebate where you got a $50 gift card for purchases over $200. New steel wheels and tires all in for $378 after the dust settled. Had to get 175/70 r14's, so just a little smaller. Great tires.
    Cheaper than an insurance claim.
The way I look at it, you're not losing money by buying snow tires, your making each set of tires last twice as long. When i think of it this way, it's a no brainer. Yeah, the stock tires SUCK in the snow.

So far, they seem to handle great (if you have winter tires!) Mind you I've mostly been driving around the flat plains of Richmond most of the time. The only issue is stopping quickly when the road is iced over, but that's not really a fault of the car. The TCS also goes into overdrive when it's really slushy.

Traction control off > on > off > hold button until off light comes on dash. I believe that is dsc off too. Cannot be turned back on until you turn ignition off then on again.

Today we got 30cm in Ottawa area. My neighbours on either side had a Ford Focus ST and a Lexus ES series get stuck in the foot of snow on my street. I was able to zip threw in my 2016 SR on General Altimax Arctics 15" http://www.generaltire.ca/productdet...d=altimaxartic

Nothing like a winter tires & FWD.

That Focus ST has wider than normal tires doesn't it? If he didn't have winters on, he'd be stuck for sure.
