Question Rust on door sill from where weather stripping meets?

    Hello everyone,

Just noticed the other day that my drivers side door where the weather stripping from the door meets seems to be causing some abrasion (or at least at was at some point), which then has turned to some mild surface rust.

I guess something for everyone to watch out for.... make sure your door seals are nice and clean, otherwise you might end up with some surface rust like I did .

Because it's so mild, I'm guessing I may just fix it myself with some varieties of sandpaper and then just prime it and seal it, as only really the driver will see it.

I don't feel like going to Maaco and having them fix it when it's so minor...thoughts?

If you live on the east coast, I wonder if its from the sand that is used on the roads in the winter.

Perhaps! But it just seems like an odd spot for sand damage to show up, you'd think it would be on the sills or wheel wells. Usually, it's nothing but Salt here, as it's not too cold for it to stop working but works well for the freeze-thaw cycles we get.

Another idea is that it might be brake dust (metallic dust) that has sat on the door seals and turned to rust, I have lots of little orange spots all over the car too, so I wouldn't be shocked... i'm hoping that maybe a cleaner might take it off?

Worst case, sand and re-paint and seal.

Same! No sign on mine despite a couple harsh Quebec winters... curious if it will become an issue...

    Update!

Got some rust fallout remover from Canadian Tire and followed the instructions and voila! Looks pretty much brand new.

Even though, you can still clearly see that there has been some wear on the clear coat (assuming from dirty door deals from the previous owner?!)

I went over with touch up pen afterwards and covered up any grey primer spots, but there were actually very few. I'm thinking most of it was just old brake dust that the previous owner never bothered cleaning?
