MasterFocus is correct, in that ''could'' is the key word. Doing your own oil changes will only affect warranty if you screw something up, and they can prove it.

According to this (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle4181827/ ) dealer changes are not required.

You need to document that you used the correct oil and stayed within the change schedule. Receipts for oil/filter, plus photos of the odometer would seem to cover that.

Simply recording the odometer reading on the oil filter bar code portion of the box is sufficient; after all, it's a Micra. If you're doing proper regular oil changes, it's highly doubtful there'll ever be any warranty claim on the engine for oil related issues.

I just completed my second oil change:

As you can see, at just under 7,000km, the oil was still in great shape. I measured the oil I drained back into the containers it came from, and it was all accounted for; this engine didn't use a drop that I could tell. That's a tight engine.

I'm confident I could've waited another 1,000km, but my schedule doesn't always work that way, so I change when I have time on the lower side of the 8k mark.

Worked with the guy at my local Partsource, we've determined that the aftermarket Fram oil filter that will work with the Micra is number PH6607. It's a couple of dollars cheaper than the genuine Nissan part, but they have an end coated in a black grippy material making oil changes easier. Box states it's good for 8,000km, just like our manual says.

Is the Micra listed in their catalog now? Or a Versa part# maybe?

No, not yet. We did some cross-referencing of vehicles which use the same filter and compared to the genuine Nissan filter to confirm.
