Question Can I mix these 2 oils?

    Hello everyone,
Ill be doing my oil change this weekend. However, I have 3L left of Kirkland synthetic 5w30 left and about 1L left of Penzoil 5w30 synthetic premium.

Can I safely top off the missing 0.5L of kirkland with the penzoil?

Is it okay to mix different oil brands or types (i.e. synthetic oil and conventional oil)?

Yes, you can safely mix one brand of oil (e.g. Mobil 1) with a different brand (e.g. AMSOIL) or conventional oil with synthetic oil (in fact, that’s what a synthetic blend is). Most synthetics today are fully compatible with conventional oils and can safely be mixed.
However, just because you CAN it doesn’t mean that you SHOULD. Let me explain.

Even though AMSOIL motor oils are totally compatible with conventional and other synthetic motor oils, mixing AMSOIL oils with other oil brands or types will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce their performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Read the whole article since it lists some of the possible issues.

The question is not, should or shouldn't I mix different oils together?

The question is, should I take the risk of damaging my car to save 50$?

And the answer to that is no

Every time I’ve changed the oil 3l has put me right on the money

All motor oils are required to be miscible by sae so yes you can mix them no problem
Also don’t trust oil company’s “extended life interval” or whatever just change it every 10k max
