Sounds like a big project. Thanks for sharing for future DIYers.

Man, what a lot of work for a fairly simple problem, eh?

    Thanks again.

    I have the same issue.
My heat knob wasn’t turning and then I heard it pop.
Taking it out and trying to reattach did not work.

My temp solution. Pull back the panel by your right foot( gas pedal )
Locate the piece that opens and closes the flap allowing hot air into the cabin.
    * note you push it up and away, toward the front of the car. *

I feel that if the whole assembly is not required to change then just removing the center divide and radio console and cup holders you should have enough access to repair / replace.

But this information is still HIGHLY useful. So thank you.

I found the trick with the Green SRS clips is to twist them with bend nose pliers

My blend door needs this service also, I also ended up breaking off one of the teeth inside the hot/cold knob.

I was able to remove the knob assembly from the rest of the HVAC controls, and open it up to remove the tooth ( Which had lodged into the other teeth, and completely jammed up the knob)
