Whats your average oil consumption (UPDATE: warranty engine replacement)

My 2017 has been using a fair bit of oil since I bought it. Didnt check the oil first 8000 km. But then when I started checking. I would be down a litre of oil for every 8000. Complained at the dealer about it on my second service @ 16000km. They told me to just keep an eye on it. I made a point to go to the dealer for them to top it off everytime. At 40 000 they finally checked a few thing and ran tests. My car now has 45000 and have to add 2litres of oil every 7000km... The dealer is trying to tell me that according to Nissan Canada that it is normal oil consumption for this car..... I asked to get the service manager to contact me next week. Cause if it keeps going the way it is. Instead of fueling up, then checking the oil. Ill be adding oil, then checking the fuel level. This is complete bull****.

That said. I am actively shopping for a new, non-Nissan car. If their not gona fix it...Im getting raid of it before I have to rebuild the engine. Not sure what parts cost are for the micra. But my old 1989 civic costed me 1200$ in parts and a weekend of labouring to rebuild the motor. Cant imagine the micra being cheaper

Looking at either a 2019 subaru outback with 3.6l engine, would also install a 2" lift and agressive off road tires on it. Or the Kia Telluride. Both are nearly twice the size of the Micra. More importantly, they are not a Nissan product.

Mine is a 2016 Versa SV but I think they have the same engine. I bought it February this year with 10K miles. It currently has 17K miles and on 5K mile oil change intervals it isn't dropping below the full mark on the dipstick. You might want to do a web search about the 1.6 Nissan engines with piston slap. I know there are a few videos on you tube showing how to check your car for it.

I also found this thread. I haven't read much of it but I'd suspect there will be some posts about piston slap in it. https://micra-forum.com/showthread.p...HR16DE-solved) It's a 70 page long thread so I'd be surprised if there's not at least a few instances of piston slap listed. Do your own research and if your engine has piston slap go to the dealer armed with a recording of it and let Nissan pay for fixing it. My Versa has a CVT which is another of Nissan's problems. For that reason I'm planning to do a fluid change about every 30K miles hoping I can keep it happy for years to come. I bought my Versa on short notice and didn't know about the CVT problems until I'd already bought one. I like the fuel mileage I get with the CVT and as of now it's doing fine but, I've read of many instances of transmissions failing well below 50K miles.

If I were you before buying any kind of Kia I'd read some of their reviews. I've seen many instances online where they would try to lay blame for problems on the owner to get out of covering repairs under warranty. I had thought about getting a Kia myself until I read some of their horror stories.

2016 SV auto. Down 1/2 liter in 5100 km. I thought that at one previous change it was down a full liter but I never checked it after I had the oil change done. Now I check the level after every change . Last change had the oil exactly on the fill line. Vehicle has 28,000 km.

My wife has had a Kia Soul for the past 4 years. The service department here in Abbotsford has been phenomenal. Shortly after we had our daughter, I was working in Yukon. She had to install her winter tires, with the baby seat in the car she could only fit two tires at the time. So she called the dealer to see if she could do two trips to bring all 4 tires. Instead, they sent two employees to get the tires from our storage locker, load them into the car. Took the car to the dealer, brought it back and put the summer tires back in storage... Did not charge us anything for the tire change or even for the convenience they offered us. They went above and beyond we were blown away by this.

Everytime we've dealt with them its been nothing but great service. That said, any dealership is only as good as their staff.

Good that you have a great dealer. Too many manufacturers and dealers now are more interested in the bottom line than trying to establish a long term relationship with their customers. The last new car I bought was a 1997 Ford Escort, I never had many warranty issues with it but the dealer I bought it from would always provide me a upgraded loaner car if they had the car in for repair. I no longer live in North Carolina where I bought it, if I did I'd have probably tried to work out a deal with them on a new Ford when I bought the Versa. My Versa was in a rear end collision when it had about 10K miles on it. Here in Kentucky any car that gets $1,000 or more damage to it in an accident gets tagged with a rebuilt title so I was able to buy the Versa for only $5300. I'm assuming the dealer bought it at an insurance auction cheap then fixed it for a few hundred dollars out of pocket and was still able to sell it cheap and turn a profit. Of course a rebuilt title lowers it's value but I bought the car for about 60% of what's it's value in good condition would have been without the rebuilt title so I'm happy with the deal. It's not uncommon for me to get 200K+ miles out of a car so I figure on this one I'll still come out ahead if I can get 100K out of it. I had an '88 Ford Escort that I bought used in 1993 with 146K miles on it. I drove it until about 2012. When I quit driving it it had 518K miles. It was still running but needed more work done to it than I wanted to tackle so I decided to retire it.

2016 SV auto 45,000 Kms & I don’t think mine uses any oil.
The engine stays around 2500 RPM or less so it has an easy life.
I read in this forum about owners seeing oil consumption while
Doing high speed highway driving in a standard.
My car is dealer serviced & they always overfill the engine. I put the
Dipstick in till the ORing just makes contact with the tube & it reads Full
I hope you do your homework before buying a Subaru, lots
Of recalls & class action lawsuits.
I test drove a 3.6 Outback a few years ago & the saleman
Warned it was not great on gas. I believe 2019 is the last year
    To get one.
