Protecting the undermount spare for winter

Winterizing the little Micra and one thing I don't like is the awkward is the location of the spare - perfect for getting covered in slush and road salt - so a cheap tire cover was my solution for now.
Anyone figure out a better idea or have you managed to fit the spare inside?

I took down the spare tire & sprayed both sides of the rim with fluid film as there was a few rust spots, hopefully
that helps the rim at least.

    Feb 2015 build
    9,999 purchase price + tax..no additional 1600$ because it was a 2015 purchased in 2016

I've been using Allback's Linseed oil paint for many years to paint rims and any rusty car parts - stuff is expensive and takes a while to dry but is Amazing! Marine grade but nothing toxic and not greasy either. Was really hoping there was a way to fit the spare (hidden) inside the car though.
