    Noisy 5 speed transmission in a 2015 ?

Hey everyone. When my Yaris got totalled in April this year, I found what seemed like a good deal on a 2015 base model Micra with just under 50.000 km. It’s my first Nissan product, having been a Toyota guy for most of my time. I can’t shake the thought that the Micra has a noisy-ish drivetrain(mostly transmission) compared to the Echo and Yaris that I have owned for 7 years or so until this...I hope someone with experience with both can chime in on what is normal for this car in comparison to an Echo/Yaris 5 speed. Also, I have used Castrol Syntec 75w90 with great success in all my cars in last 15 years, can I run that in the Micra? (I seem to remember it calls for a slightly different weight gear oil)
    Thanks in advance!

The owners manual for that year calls for 5W-30. The newer years are the same car, same engine but they call for 0W-20. You could probably use either. I don't know about the gear oil, you can search the forum as there is a bit of a trick to get access to the transmission as it's supposed to be "lifetime" or just serviced at the stealership.

What kind of noise? There isn't much sound deadening in the car, and it's a parts bin car so the transmission isn't exactly a new design either.

I also have a 2015 manual. I don't know that the transmission itself is noisy, but overall I find it a noisy car in general, especially at highway speeds as it revs so high.

i would agree completely with that...it made me wonder if 1st is straight cut gears instead of helical, but i really doubt it....i kinda like the noise....it makes me feel something is happening and your connected...and not through an i pod!!!
