Battery Group Size 121R

I hate to admit to being a "stupid" woman around cars but.... I might be. My battery is 7 years old but seems to still be okay. It is not the original - the original died after 4 months and the Nissan dealership replaced it. Should I replace it now, before winter, even though it is working fine? I feel like it must be on its last legs after 7 years, but don't want to do so if there is nothing wrong with it. To save myself a lot of grief, I'll just go back to the dealer. Sure no complaints about the one they did in 2015.

I think it depends also on how the car is used and stored.

My old Mitsubishi Mirage had it's original OEM battery from the factory (Built in October 2013) and I just sold it in the summer, just shy under being 9 years old, never had any issues with it, though I was expecting to, so I had a jumper pack in the car just in case!

The car was also parked indoors in a heated garage for almost all of its life, so it had a pretty easy go of it.

You can also get a garage to test your battery (or try buying or borrowing a battery tester) to see if it's holding a charge correctly, though if you're worried it might just be easier to replace it as they're not that expensive in the grand scheme of things car wise!

Temperature extremes are hard on the battery, too hot or too cold and it will reduce the battery life faster, leaving the car sit unused for very long periods of time is also hard on the battery.

i am also starting to worry about my 8 year old OEM battery, i'm leaning towards the 121R costco because it seems bigger capacity and cheaper? that the 96r at costco. I don't have to worry about the oem intake, because i don't have one , but the "stretching" of the + cable has me worried. has anyone installed a COSTCO 121R ?,, and how could i avoid the positive cable "stretching"?

Really good information as I was just thinking of replacing the original battery on the 2015 Micra we own. Its left outside in winter even at -35. 9 years is pushing it. Now I have to decide on the multiple sizes mentioned. maybe a 96R ($180.99 +Core) though the 35/550 is cheaper (158.50 +core) at CT. A 121R is $158.99. Might try Costco. So the 99R is direct size according to the thread and hard to find.

Hey everyone,

just joined this group as I was looking at replacing my original battery (2016 Micra S). After looking at options posted on this thread, I wanted to confirm that I successfully installed the Kirkland Brand 121R 600CCA battery in about 20 minutes. Even with an aftermarket stereo (taps into the positive terminal), though a bit of a stretch, it worked perfectly. The terminals are the same width as the OEM battery, the width and length are the same, though the Kirkland battery is taller and the terminals stick out whereas with the OEM battery the terminals are recessed.

This looks like the most economical option i can see currently, so long as you have a costco friend! might have to get a battery and a hot-dog next trip.s Still on my Original battery...2015...any other thrill seekers out there on the original ?

Last servicing, my local Nissan dealership declared my battery "weak" and needing of replacement. I thought well it may be "weak" but it fires up my car instantly each and every time.....even during the deadly cold patch we had this winter. Im wondering if the dealership is not on the up and up. You should get at least 5-6 years out of a battery should you not?.....Im only on year 5 since the car was built. I figger even an idjit like me can replace a battery when the time comes without being bent over by the dealership(even though I understand that OEM parts can be better quality).....

Well I got 9 years out of the original battery. On the Kirkland 121R now. At some point it has to be done. A load test will determine if it's indeed weak.

over the years i've generally come to accept 8 years as replacement time...no matter what...but i have a jump pack and im kinda interested how long i can go, but i might just get the cosco battery and a hot dog....oK 9 years and the hotdog is a treat so...2015 plus 9 is 2024....ok so december 2024 hotdog and a battery....mental note...i kinda want the hot dog now though maybe i'll get the battery sooner
