Have you compared the odometer to what a GPS indicates?
Is the Micra connecting to a GPS somehow?
Would the Micra not use the same information to give me odometer readings as it does my fuel economy?

I expect that it does, but I'm just looking for anything that might account for such a large discrepancy. I own a 2014 CUBE, and a 2018 NOTE and both of their readouts are off, but not by that much.
I put slightly larger tyres on the CUBE (65R instead of 60R) and the calculated mileage went down slightly. In reality the consumption improved when I considered the actual distance covered.
I don't blame you for despising the economy; you sure put a lot of miles on it.

Resetting odo on each fill up, and filling to the first click on each tank. I can squeeze an extra 1.5l in if I go for the second click, but I avoid doing so. Not that that should affect readings long term by more than a quarter litre high and low/100km.

Just FYI, I compared the onboard display vs. actual consumption of a Micra S loaner from Nissan.
After going 838 km from the previous fill (to the top), it said 4.4 L/100 km. Actual consumption for that fill was 4.8, so it was optimistic by 8%. The ScanGauge read 4.5, or 6% optimistic (which can be calibrated, but wasn't yet). Context for those results.

The computer in my Versa does the same thing. It's usually anywhere from 7 to 10% optimistic. I do hand calculations at every fill up. I've also got an Ultra gauge. I've done some re-calibration on it and it's usually within 2-3% of actual MPG. Maybe this is Nissan's way of making people who never do the math think that they're getting really great mileage hoping it will get them repeat customers.
