Exhaust Options - Muffler Flange Failure & Replacement Options

New to the forums here. We bought my wife a 2015 Micra SR new in the summer of 2014.

This past summer the flange connecting the muffler to the midpipe broke. I looked into replacing it but none of the usual parts suppliers, (rockauto ect) offered a bolt-on replacement muffler. I didn't feel like getting gouged at the dealership so we had the flange welded back on. This was a sub $40 temp fix and probably wont last the winter.

I have always ordered parts through Yahoo Auctions Japan for my Skyline and got to thinking it might be a place to get a decently priced used exhaust system for the Micra. There are many options (AUTECH, FUJITSUBO ect.) available on the auctions for $100-$300

I have done lots of work on older nissans (S & R chassis cars) but have no experience with Micras

My question is would any K13 March exhaust fit on our canadian versions? Or do they have completely different chassis floors / exhaust hanger points. Alternatively, does anyone have a lead on replacement mufflers without having to go to the dealership.

    Thanks,

    Jordie

If it's just to replace, I would almost suggest the scrap-yard. If you want used from Japan, all K13 spec variant exhausts are going to fit. Make sure to note the base model March uses a smaller diameter cat-back since it's a 3-cylinder in Japan. The higher end variants like the Nismo and Nismo S models use 2" diameters which come with a 4-cylinder HR15DE engines, same line design, just better materials and larger diameter.

Perfect. Thanks for the reply Nobuseri (and quick lesson on micras)

I will start hunting the auctions as there seems to be more options for stainless systems. Replacing it with a used exhaust from a scrapyard is just asking for it to be replaced again.

Has anyone else had a similar failure with their muffler flange breaking off so prematurely?

Ill let you all know what I pick out.

    My Pleasure Mr. R32jordie

For the application, I would suggest Fujitsubo's Authorize S series for the base model March K13, it's just an axle-back and is stainless steel and increases the pipe diameter to [50mm] 1.96". Fujitsubo makes many OEM exhaust systems for many Japanese make models. It is very similar to the Nismo original axle-back exhaust made by Autech in Japan.

It's possible to find this model used on auctions in Japan if you get lucky.

This is the first exhaust part failure I can remember being mentioned around here. EDIT... nope, this has happened before. See MrMicra's reply below.

    PS: welcome to the forum!

Thats EXACTLY what happened to ours. I was pretty surprised when a replacement the muffler wasnt available anywhere (local or online) A nice stainless JDM system is looking like the way to go for sure. Gives me reason (excuse) to order parts.

Thanks!, The current wheels on the R32 are 16x8 Kosei K1 with Nankang NS2R for track duties.

I also have heavier TommyKaira 18x9 Wheels with Zestino Gredge 07R for street use.

Ouhh TommyKaira vinyl looks great on the side. I don't share many photos of my March Nismo S but here it is with a Kakimoto GTbox 06&S catback.
