DIY/How-to: LED Projector Retrofit and Blackout / Demon eyes

I've always found that (night + rain + micra) = might as well not have headlights. While I put 2K Lumen LED's (standard halogens are ~700) in the fiance's stock housings, and holy crap are they an improvement, I took it one step farther.

Morimoto M-LED projectors @ 2.8K after 5 hours of heating cycles in an oven making sure not to melt the housing, and finding out that instead of screwing the lens on to the housing, or using clips, they use bloody staples... got the headlights open - Special side note, Hella likes permaseal, permaseal sucks to open lol it's like a mix of caulking and solid ABS.

What the front end looks like without headlights - just 3x10mm bolts hold them in.

Prior to removal I compared what I had to what I was moving to (low beam)

it's certainly odd having a nearly full 180 degree spread of light. Finished product (took a weekend) - will be wiring up the demon eye and white/amber switch back strip tomorrow

it is currently raining here but when it lets up I will, tried to get pictures of the turn signal strips last night and they're so bright that it just washes out everything.

Am I gonna have this much asspain replacing the stock bulbs with LED, or is this just because you added a projector housing?

Just because I had to open the things - my fiance's LED (superbrightleds, like $70) are literally just take out the old bulb, make sure the shields are facing up (otherwise your headlights will cast a crazily shaped light pattern), push hard and twist (the boot on the housing will likely fight the heatsink from getting in as far as it needs to to seat).

So, the rain hasn't really stopped, but I did get a few this afternoon of the various settings, and I just finished wiring the demon eyes.

So... picture time. Headlight at rest:

Demon eye how to - half inch split loom, lots of solder, heatshrink, blade connectors for days, electrical tape... and eyes on the tips of your fingers.

In one of the other threads someone pointed out that in the drivers wheel well there's an unused hole with sealing grommet next to the hood latch cable exit point - take off front tire and try to take it out towards you... i couldn't so I just pushed like hell, it'll fell inside. Go hunting behind the carpet for a while. Eventually you'll get it - if you have 1/2" split loom, cut out the centre cap of that grommet

Once trimmed open just enough for the loom to pass through, epoxy it in place so about 8 inches will be in the foot well with the rest sticking in to the wheel well.

If you've ever done wiring before, you know how to fish - key note, if you're going to fish, tape the loom keeping in mind the girth of any wire bundle to go through it... I didn't and ended up just fingering the connectors through the hole and re-looming the line after the fact

Push thingy in the other thingy until it looks like this - I used the closed end of a combination wrench to apply even pressure the whole way round.

not so much a how to I guess, wire the things as their instructions state... test your switch, ground things, I have a 3 amp fuse about 6 inches from the positive on the battery... end of the day, all this made me think when they turned on was "Hey laser lips, your mama was a snowblower"
