    Blacking out some Chrome

    Hey guys,

So today after work I brought Franky into the shop and did some minor work on his exterior. I am not a fan of chrome so I decided to black it out. Had been debating between Gloss black trim paint, Matte black trim paint, Satin trim paint and then a metallic paint. After bickering with myself for a bit, I painted it Metallic black, and I used one of Nissan's paint codes, G41.

    What do you guys think?
    (Also removed the MICRA lettering)

Nice job on the painting, looking good.

I went with matte black plasti dip for my front grill, rear emblem and the emblem on the steering wheel. Im still very happy with it.

I hadn't even thought of doing the one inside, is it easily removable?

That is a lot of work for the small badge. Hmmmm... May or may not do that. Thanks for the link to your instructions though, will look back on it if I decide to.

Looks awesome! But, your car is grey!?!?! I didn't know they made grey cars, I thought all cars were black... hmmmm... just kidding

I did mine with plastidip... masking the front grill is quite a job...

How'd you end up layering/prepping it?

I painted the emblems on my Acura years ago when I got it but it didn't hold up too well. Back then all I did was clean it and spray it with 3-4 layers of paint.

Now I wouldn't do any less than hauling them off, sanding them down, priming them, painting them with several layers and then several layers of clear coat. Maybe even bake it in the oven between prime/paint/clear coat!

So the way I did it was in this order:
    -Taping off
-Scuffing the chrome with an SOS Pad
    -Apply adhesive promoter
    -Prime
    -heat Lamp
-Paint 2 layers tills even and without orange peel effect
    -Heat lamp
    -Clear coat

So I only had to scuff up the Chrome for the Adhesive promoter to cling to, and then everything else clings to the adhesive promoter.
