The black car in my avatar is my 1998 Pontiac Firefly. 1.0L, 3-cyl, 5-speed. (The Micra is a 2015 SR automatic that Nissan loaned me to test drive.)

I've had the Firefly since 2005, so that's coming up on 13 years.

I don't drive a lot, and it's rarely seen winter, so there's a LOT of life left in it -- it's only got ~42k kms on it now (at that rate, it's good for another 80-100 years at least). Prior to the Firefly, the longest I'd kept a car was 4 or 5 years.

I also typically have a "winter beater" (arguably a nicer car than the Firefly, ironically). But the winter beaters only stick around for a year or 2. The most recent beaters: 2000 Metro; 2004 Echo; 2004 Prius; 2007 Civic). Used Micras have not yet entered my budgetary range for either summer or winter status.

What about you? How long do you keep your cars?
