Writer Jil McIntosh wonders aloud whether she's actually gushing over the new Micra.

Answer: yes, she's actually gushing. I don't think I've ever read such a glowing review of an entry level car before.

    Likes...

    - peppy performance, sharp steering
    - unexpectedly good handling and smooth ride
    - 4 speed automatic well suited to the car
    - value for money
    - supportive seats
    - solid highway feel at 120 km/h, despite city car mission

    Dislikes...

    (Not much, really....)

    - lower fuel economy than the competition
    - sparse interior
    - seat height issue for taller than average driver
    - have to remove the rear headrests to fold the seats down

    Overall...

I’ll call it now: Nissan is going to sell a major whack of these things. [...] I just wasn’t expecting something this small, and this inexpensive, to be this good. Automakers are always bringing in new models or improving their existing ones, but every now and again, one comes in that truly shakes up the segment.

Hmm, she is the first to praise the car's highway handling. Most other don't seem to like it.

And I get to congratulate Jil for solidly confirming the prediction I made in "5 reasons reviewers will like Micra more than Mitsubish Mirage". Reviewers generally hate CVT's, and Jil was emphatic on this point, saying a CVT could have "ruined" the Micra.

She also notes the lack of engine noise/buzz under acceleration, yet one of the criticisms made by MSN autos was the "coarse engine" above 3500 RPM.

More evidence that you have to take reviews with a grain of salt. Subjective interpretations reported as fact.
