Thread: Tap and die set 70% off

Tap and die set 70% off

Canadian tire is having a sale and a lot of tools are heavily reduced.

    I scored a $200 ( 70+ piece ) tap and die set for $54 tax in.
The smallest sets are $40 regularly so for basically the same money I got more.

Did you end up having problems removing the OEM knob? I see you used a file on the shifter rod, any reason why? When I did it, I probably broke the inside press fit plastic so basically my OEM knob is never coming back on, whatever it was **** anyway.

It was I little big for the m10 die to fit over it and the spikes would make the threading difficult.
So I used a angle grinder to round it off.
    Tapered the tip.
Used the die to see what was still a little to big for the die and ground that down abit.

I believe the stem is m12 but it makes cleaner fuller threads as an m10 and there are more m10x1.25 knobs then m12 knobs.
Trying to make good m12 threads from the spikes would be awful .

When I fiddled with the knob over a year ago I would have swore that it's not coming off.
Yesturday I just put my hand on it and twisted it to the left like I would a tight mason jar and it popped right off.

I kinda want it lower so I might hack the stem and thread it lower.

yeah nice, they pressured fit the OEM knobs with glue, so twist and it breaks. Any pics of the new knob installed?
