Nissan Micra Canadian sales figures, 2014-2020 (vs. Spark & Mirage)

Impressive start: dealerships just started receiving cars in the past week or so, Nissan hasn't even kicked off national advertising, yet already 201 Micras were sold in April.

I'll keep a running tally of sales in this thread, with a comparison to the Micra's two closest competitors (in price and size), the Chevy Spark and Mitsubishi Mirage. I know which car my money's on for most sales...

Also, notice the previous monthly numbers for the Spark & Mirage. Small "city cars" generally aren't selling in big numbers in Canada. You can look at previous year's sales of the Spark & Mirage here:

    Spark: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/08...s-figures.html
    Mirage: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2013/10...sa-canada.html

GM sold 2550 Sparks in Canada in all of 2013. The Mirage only went on sale in September, but it's numbers aren't very different from the Spark's.

I can't find the source at the moment, but I think I read one reporter say Nissan was aiming to move something like 10k Micras a year. Compared to Spark & Mirage, that would be a huge accomplishment in this tiny segment! (Pardon the pun )

For comparison, Honda sold about 64k Civics in Canada last year. (The country's best selling car.)

The poor sales of the Spark does not surprise me in the least. There's no way it compares to the Micra; it's too cramped for anyone.

Why no Fit or Yaris? Ford Fiesta? Mazda 2?

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

I just went with the 3 least expensive cars on the market, since price is the focus of Nissan's marketing. (EG: the first 4 commercials.)

I've never actually sat in a Spark. There's one at a used car lot I walk past most days. I may stop and have a look at it out of curiosity.

You really think the Fit competes? It's quite a bit roomier inside, bigger outside, more powerful & more expensive.

    Mazda 2: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...s-figures.html
A few more sales than the Spark so far this year - 860 YTD; 4072 in 2013.

    Yaris: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...s-figures.html
4072 YTD; 7633 in 2013. Canadians like their Yarii!

Fiesta is hard to compare because they don't break down sales by hatch/sedan.

I honestly think the Micra will take some sales away from the Fit and the Yaris, and probably fits somewhere in between them in terms of capacity. The Spark might be a good car for really small people, but I for one could not even get into the back seat. It might as well not even have one. Fiesta and Mazda2 will probably have the hardest time against the Micra.

Mazda2 is also an older model that hasn't had much advertising. Its sales have been declining for a few years and it's due to be replaced for 2015 along with the Yaris (the 2 companies are collaborating ... sharing a platform and development costs).

The auto reviewers almost always pick the mazda2 as their choice - because it's the most fun to drive in the small car class. Yet it hasn't sold in big numbers. Goes to show how journalists and buyers in the real world have very different priorities.

Sales totals updated in post #1.

No wonder Mitsu responded with a huge rebate. I wonder what GM will do...

Has Anybody heard who won the Micra that Nissan was giving away in May 2014.? My Micra is in Canada, in Vancouver at Customs. Should be 5 - 6 days before I receive it.

Haven't heard who won. I suppose the way to find out may be posted in the rules/regulations of the contest.
