Crap! Micra cancelled in Canada. Again. 2019 is the last model year.

Boo! Looks like the Kicks has kicked the Micra to the curb:

The Nissan Micra will be discontinued in Canada after 2019, the Japanese automaker has confirmed with autoTRADER.ca.
This is according to Nissan spokesperson Claudianne Godin.

It seems to come down to price - the next gen Micra (which is already on sale in Europe and elsewhere) adds too much cost to be competitive for the entry-level segment here.

Mexican production of the Canada-spec Micra will end in December, though Nissan says there will be enough cars "to satisfy consumer demand well into 2020".

Time to start saving for a 2030 Electric Spark....Would they call an Electric Spark a spark?...doesn't seem a good name for an electric car.....hmm
    2015 Micra S (manual)
    no A/C /no power options/ block heater/4x 2 Ohm speakers...all factory stock in 2015
    Feb 2015 build
    9,999 purchase price + tax..no additional 1600$ because it was a 2015 purchased in 2016
so receipt says $8,399....+1600 .... so they look good i guess...for a brand new car!

In 10 years there will be all kinds of EV's to choose from, and probably some from Honda and Toyota as well. (Slow to join the party!) Not to mention tons of cheap, used options.

    K13 to continue in Mexico?

Had a thought: the Nissan spokesperson said Canadian production would end in Dec. But I wonder what will happen to production for the rest of the Americas.

Nissan has a history of continuing to build 'previous generation' models for years after they've been ended/replaced elsewhere. You could still get a new 1990's-era Sentra (Tsuru) until a few years ago.

Thread: Nissan Tsuru (Sentra) production reaches the end of the road... after 25 years!

I wonder if you'll be able to buy a new k13 Micra in 10 years down south??

How will this affect the resale price of the Micra?

Patty....... The price of a used car is very much a moving target. If you sell thru the internet or trade it in on something newer or sell it to your brother different factors come into play.

The best thing you can do to stay ahead financially is to keep the car as long as reasonably possible. Ten years would be a good goal. By then depreciation is minimal. The worst thing is to trade in your car in the first three years.

Look at what you loose in the first 20 minutes of ownership.... Delivery and dealer prep @ $1600 Documentation fee $600 (where they print a transfer form from their computer and call the ICBC roadrunner to do the registration transfer and you will pay for that) Maybe you have an enterprising dealer like some in a town about 110 miles north of you that offer North Island Protection Package $900 which turns out to be nitrogen in the tires and green filler caps. Supposedly this will keep the tires from rotting but they forget that the rot , if it happens works from the outside.

So lets add this up $1600 + 600+900 = 3100 x 12% tax 372 =$3472 But wait there is more.... Depreciation in the first year is about 25%

My car is 5 years old now. Just 40,000 kms. No real plan to sell it as it works for me BUT every so often I think about getting an electric car. Maybe not yet though.

Micra wasn't the only casualty this year:

Rust in Peace: These 19 cars won't make it into 2020

    https://driving.ca/nissan/features/f...e-it-into-2020

Other small cars on their way out:

    - Nissan Versa Note
    - Prius C
    - Fiat 500
    - VW new Beetle
    - Ford Fiesta
    - Smart Fortwo
    - Chevrolet Cruze (more of a compact than subcompact)

Cars as a segment are shrinking, small cars even moreso. It seems people can't get enough of SUV's and crossovers these days.

Even more. Volkswagen Golf station wagons are discontinued as well.
