    Sept: 969 Micras

Thanks! Tally updated in the first post with 969 Micras sold in September.

Interestingly, Versa sales tanked at 772 last month (-45%), falling below the Micra for the first time since launch. But Sentra sales shot way up (+56%) to 1550.

Mirage/Spark are still getting their arses kicked.
Yup. Spark especially! A Nissan rep told me that a price war in the segment usually lifts the sales of all competitors. That's true of the Mirage numbers (monthly average is up since the Micra launch), but Spark sales has fallen below average since the Micra came out. Someone is eating someone's lunch!

Funny factoid: in the U.S., the Spark dominates the Mirage -- opposite of here.

And it looks like this stat is holding: 1 in 10 Nissans being sold here is a Micra.

    October sales

    Holding steady: 967 Micras

Mitsu only moved 301 Mirages, and I notice they revived their $9,998 pricing strategy in a print ad this weekend. No Spark figures out yet -- I'm still not seeing any attempt from GM to compete on price with the Micra & Mirage.

The Versa Note had another rough month -- another big decline: only 607 sold, down 57% from last Oct. I wonder how much of that is the Micra effect?

Overall though, Nissan sold more cars last month than it ever has before, so maybe they're not too worried about a potential Versa/Micra conflict?

The Micra's a different segment. If you want economy, small, reliability, and fun to drive, you get a Micra. On the other hand, if you still want economy, reliability, and a small size, but roominess is more important than fun to drive, the Versa fits the bill.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

    cannibalization?

I'm not so sure about that... People can be enticed into a different segment -- up or down -- if the price difference is attractive enough. And the Micra's price is right!

    ---

EDIT: updated the tally in post #1 with October Spark sales. No surprises there.

    November numbers

Steady as she goes: 924 Micras delivered last month.

And it outsold the Versa again. Hmmm.

I'll post the competition's numbers tomorrow. GM Canada is always a day late.

Looks like another good month of crushing the competition.

    You can say that again.

I updated the chart with Mirage & Spark numbers.

Year to date, it looks like Canadians love Micras twice as much as Mirages, which in turn are loved twice as much as Sparks.

Actually, the Micra love is more than double the Mirage since it wasn't a full year of sales for Nissan.

Well of course.. The mirage is hideous, underpowered and costs about the same.

Kind of surprised about the spark tho- Thought it was a decent looking little car myself and around the same price. But.. Taste is subjective.

Yup, the Mirage has a face only a mother could love -- almost everybody I've talked to prefers the Micra.

But I still like the wee Mitsu because I'm a big efficiency nerd, and their engineers went all out for MPG. And believe it or not, because it's a featherweight it's got a better power to weight ratio than the Spark.

the mirage is one of the few new cars that was universally hated by all car journos. it truly is a bad car.

i have to say, it really cheers me that the micra is the best selling of its class here. altho...here in vancouver, i rarely see the micras. i dunno why?
