    Rear brakes squealing

For the past few months, the rear brakes started squealing on my Micra. It doesn't happens all the time and I haven't been able to identify exactly how to reproduce the issue yet. It seem to happen only at low speed and with a certain pressure on the pedal (meaning that if I release or add pressure to the pedal, the squealing stops).

It's been a while since I owned a car with drum brakes, so I was wondering if it was normal. I know that my parent's 2002 Toyota Sienna has had squealing rear drum brakes for the past 12 years or so.

Anyway, do any of you have some sort of noise coming from the rear brakes?

what are the climate conditions like when you hear the squeal, what is the mileage, have you ever serviced your brakes or turned your rotors?

My guess is some dirt or brake dust has accumulated in the drum or your brakes are worn out.

I would say the weather is always around 0 degrees (+/- 5 degrees), and it squeals whether it is sunny or raining.

My Micra is a 2015 with 13 000 km. The brakes were never serviced (I bought the car last June).

Is the noise on both sides?

I imagine there's some small debris in the drum, probably stuck on one of the shoes now. Probably disassembly & cleaning would sort out the problem.

Yeah I have had this on both my micras , it is dust and it only makes the sound when the pedal pressure is light. I cleaned them on my first micra and it went away then after a while it came back so it will happen over and over.

Maybe different pad material would fix it?
