Vent Control Valve P0456 (evap leak)

I posted elsewhere that I was unable to clear my malfunction (check engine) light, but then I finally did. However, when it came on again the next day, I figured it was time to go to the dealer.

Iit was a very small evap leak at the vent control valve. They replaced the valve. So far (10 minutes driving) seems A-OK. :-) I had a similar complaint about a year ago and I know they found a small leak then but I don't think they did anything about it (obviously). They were probably hoping it would just go away, which it did for a year.

Some times the hoses crack, or the coupler is loose.
Great that they finally replaced it. But that is the symptom. What caused the leak is the problem, if it happens again have it looked into. If it doesn't, the sensor was faulty.

My dealer had a 'get to know your car event' last night. One thing that was mentioned was to stop filling the tank when the pump clicks, not to 'squeeze' a tad bit more in, as that extra gas will damage the charcoal canister and hence, engine light will be on.
This was the reason I bought my Micra, my canister and valve were cracked on my Toyota. It happened 14 years into having the car. Too much gas the odd time or my daughter going over a curb, who knows what caused it. I'd say the latter!

When I fill my car it clicks at 36 ltrs +/-. To get a "full" tank I have to slowly keep filling till it comes up the tube.
I can understand their point. But at the same time I've had no issue, but also don't turn off my car right after filling up, so maybe I burn off enough so as to not cause an issue.

I had it happen once when I overfilled mine. Didnt have much of an issue. CEL was on, but I didnt know how to check the computer then so it was the 'old battery disconect" trick for me and it carried on.

I also noticed that filling past the first click sometimes results in a bit of fuel spillage.

Thanks for reporting back with the code & solution, Patty. That'll help others for sure. Sounds like the Micra is sensitive to this issue.

I've "overfilled" my Firefly for 10+ years by Nissan's definition and never had a problem with the evap system.
