    That's a good one!

    ---

I was in touch with the Nissan PR rep today looking for an update: he said their Micra expert was off sick, and is now playing catch-up. They haven't forgotten about us.

It's a Nissan Micra, and given its solid reliability record, I think an extended warranty wouldn't be worth it.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

    Nissan Canada's Micra Team replies...

There's some really good info provided here; also some not-unexpected caveats on certain topics:

    1) Any news on when cars will be available to test drive? (Specifically asked from: Toronto, Peterborough, Edmonton & Calgary. And many searches for that info from: Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa/Gatineau)

    2) Why no CVT?

    3) Looking for clarification: In the list of modifications made to the car specifically for Canada, steering is mentioned. The Nissan press release said the turning radius was tightened, but I read elsewhere that the steering ratio was changed (which could be fun -- some reviews of the UK Micra say the steering isn't particularly responsive).

Both European and Canadian markets employ a 16.6:1 ratio versus 17.8:1 ratio used in other Micra/March vehicles produced at Nissan’s facilities in Aguascalientes, Mexico. There was also unique electric power steering tuning for the Canadian market to achieve a more confident highway driving feel, on-centre feel and low speed assist was increased for ease of parking/maneuvering.
    4) Flat towing/dinghy towing: is the Micra the same as the Versa? Meaning, (A) you can't tow the automatic at all with four-wheels-down, and (B) when towing the manual in neutral, you must run the engine every 800 km? (From thread: flat towing / dinghy towing a 2015 Nissan Micra)

Doing so will damage internal transmission parts due to lack of transmission lubrication. Regarding the manual, yes the operation is the same as Versa Note, the engine will have to be started every 805 km.
    5) Why can't you get air conditioning as an option on the base manual Micra S MT without moving up to Micra SV MT trim level? And why can't you get an automatic base Micra S 4AT without air conditioning

To effectively execute this philosophy, Nissan has extensively researched demand for particular trim and option combinations that appeal most to consumers. Certain combinations, such as automatic without air condition, represent an extremely low percentage of overall demand. By not offering low demand combinations, Nissan can ensure that the most popular models have greater availability at our dealers nationwide. Fewer combinations also mean that costs are kept lower, a key aspect of our business case that has allowed Nissan Canada to offer the most value to Canadian consumers at the most attractive price possible.
    6) Any chance we might get a diesel Micra? An EV Micra?

    7) How about taller gearing in the 5 speed for a high mileage Micra?

    8) Where on the engine is the best place to mount a temperature sending unit for a proper aftermarket temperature gauge?

    9) Similar to #8, where is the best place on the engine to put an oil pressure gauge sending unit for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge?

    10) Should we run synthetic oil in our new Micra's, or is conventional motor oil just as good in the 1.6L?
