Spark has no back seat. Okay, they do put a seat back there, but it's completely unusable; might as well get a smart car.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

You started the thread about this last year.

Basically: better warranty, better fuel economy, a few more standard features. But with worse styling, handling & lower power. However, this year the revised Mirage gets a facelift, handing/braking upgrades and a few more hp, and fuel economy might improve.

Howie: looks like the Spark is still a 4-seater.

Those back seat headrests look like they protrude and are uncomfortable.

Styling wise though, I prefer the interior of the Spark over the drab "any colour you like as long as it's black/dark grey!" of the Micra & Mirage.

Gents.. Back on the rails here... Lets get back to the Spark. Our latest attempt at competition.

So According to the website.. It has 98hp out of a 1.4L Inline 4. Makes 5.7L/100k highway. Weighs 2070lbs.

Ours is a 1.6L 109hp. 2363lbs if you got the automatic. 6.6L/100k highway.

The spark is going to be some pretty tough competition and might actually be pretty sporty if they did the suspension right?

    yep.

the spark does not need to be exactly competitive to the Micra for me to sing its praises: the more of these small, fuel efficient, subcompacts, the happier i am.

next to EVs, these little guys are the absolute best things - for the environment, for our pocket books, for practicality in everyday usage.

Im sad the mazda2 will not come, and I do love love mazda's new generation of lineup, but oh well - that's their loss.

But it's GM... I'm not worried. In demographics where there is likely to be GM supporters, they drive trucks and full size cars/ SUVs .. Super minis belong to imports.

I am sure the sales tactic will be to show the price of the spark with features avg Joe wants, then upsell to Cruze with much better financing deals.

Wow - they cut a lot of fat out of the car. The last gen Spark was 2337 lbs with the 5-speed!

I will be surprised if GM really puts its heart in marketing this car.
