Got a Thule roof rack with aero bars which fits my old Yakima forklift bike carrier. With the mounting position provided by Thule, the bike rack doesn't fit with the hatch open so had to shift the front bar forward a couple inches. Guess that's a problem with such a short roof.

I have been meaning to do this to my Micra. Has anyone had any experience with rubbing from the door seal mounting tabs? ive only previously ever had factory rails and am worried about paint/weather strip damage around those metal pieces..

Mine have formed pretty well around my mounts. I even have wires run under mine to get to my roof lights.

glad to hear it. Do you have the Thule kit? if so do you happen to have part #'s for the fit kit and such?

No I went with a cheap rack from ebay. It was about $140 including shipping.

Awesome! Looks like a quality option on the cheap!

From Thule the kit with the aero bars is $614.85 so definatly an investment.. Even before any carriers haha.. ive always wanted a basket however i fear for the lack of moisture protection...

Yakima doesn't list a kit for the Micra, however they have one for the Versa Note.. That kit is worth $327 however you get round bars instead of aero ones..

I've never had anything other than aero style bars and I havent noticed much wind noise from them.
How do you find your bars on the highway? That's where most of my driving happens..

I buy a set of bar use on the net(kijiji) and ebay for the roof basket. All for 250$ now I'm waiting for the basket!

    Nice find!

I am thinking about doing the same.. Buying the fit kit from Thule and trying to source the rest from Kijiji. I happened to pick up a roof box though! So i have one now for some water proof storage!

With just the bars the noise insn't too bad. Add the basket or carrier and you sound like a skateboard on asphalt.

I bought a set of roof racks from Micks garage out of Ireland. I got the last set of steel aerodynamic bars made by a company called Menabo. I consider these excellent quality and were made in Italy, and included locking plates for the bolt downs, as well as very good instructions. I chose the steel ones in case I wanted to modify or drill them, which I needed to do to mount my Thule roofrack. The Thule has t-slot adaptors which would have worked well with the aluminum racks that have slots, but I may be mounting other things on the roof as well.
Here is a link to what is offered there now.
I am unfamiliar with the G3 racks, but hear they are pretty good.
My racks were $138, plus surprisingly low shipping of $20. I think there was a coupon code for 10% off my order as well, so search it out.
All in, delivered to my door for under $200. I was very happy with Mick's garage, the speed of the order, etc.
Now I can mount my 10' playboats on the roof using foam adaptors, or have 3 or 4 bikes go on a trip. I'll post the part number if I can find my receipt.

It also allows me to tow a trailer and take my bike with me:
