your gonna have a couple of beers and break your neck.....or shoot your eye out!!
you would think pretty much the allowably payload of the car could somehow be transferred from the roof...but probably not worth trying.....was looking at carrying 850 lbs of bricks yesterday.....not on the roof! ..but sat on couch instead
Ha! I've carried 850 lbs of bricks in a car before -- inside a Toyota Camry! I loaded the footwells, except on the driver's side, and may have put some on the seats as well (cardboard underneath it all). It looked like a low-rider.
I looked up the specifications and did the math of deducting the Curb Weight from the GVWR to get the maximum load permitted for the SV.. Although the AT vehicles weigh a bit more (20kg) than those with the 5sp, their GVWR for some reason is 24kg less.
Maximum load permitted: MT=480kg, AT=437kg
I've definitely exceeded that load just with occupants lol
It does say some where max load is 950lbs
As for the roof. The rack sits on the frame and transfers weight thru the pillars.
A-b-c column can hold the weight of the car . Or during rollover the car would crush flat.
Each roof rack has a weight rating for the bars themselves.
Mine are 50kg ( per bar I assume ) I think the strongest rating was maybe 75-100kg per bar I think that was with basket. Could be wrong.
Given the car only weighs 1100kg or less 1600kg total.. I wouldnt want more then 10% sitting that high up .... EVER!!. Just saying. Only one adult or 2 children on the roof at a time
