side airbag sensor recall for model years 2015, 2016, 2017

Just found out aboutthis recall this morning when I dropped off my car at the dealer.

The recall was issued November 17 2017
On certain vehicles, a bad connection at the side airbag sensor connector could cause a momentary communication loss from the side airbag sensor to the Airbag Control Unit (ACU). This would put the system in a backup state, lowering the impact threshold required for a side airbag deployment. If a door is being closed with force while the system is in this backup state, this could cause an unintended curtain airbag, seat-mounted side airbag and seat belt pretensioner deployment in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, which would increase the risk of injury to occupants.

In a crash, this may cause airbag components to separate, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver's (frontal) airbag inflator.

The first recall (shrapnel) affects only 258 cars. The second one appears to affect every car sold in Canada. When you consider that a car is made from thousands of parts you should probably expect that a few of them may not work as engineered.
What really amazes me is that NISSAN CANADA does not list any recalls on ANY of their webpages.

if you have the recall done it shouldnt i guess....

Hmmmmmm.......it took 8 months to figure out the guy doing a bad job in 2012 was still working hard on the job!!!...fire that guy!

I think that to them it would look bad if they are putting recalls on their website for new people look for a car. For me, all cars are going to have flaws. When it comes to time, anyone remember how long it took GM to respond about their key issues, few people died? 10 Years I think?

I received the same letter. I'm curious about the "This would put the system in a backup state". Wouldn't this "backup state" cause the airbag light to come on? And if so does it mean that as long as the airbag light isn't on, there is no danger of accidental deployment?

Got this recall notice as well in the mail today. Has anyone got this fixed at the dealer? Just wondering how long it takes for the dealer to fix

"the force required to achieve this velocity means the person closing the door is likely located outside the vehicle"

Double yikes!!the sensors in the floor and there is cutting and soldering!! thiiiiiink i might wait a while until they get good at it.....:confused:

and it should take 1.6 hrs !..that would take me about 4!!

Just spoke with the dealer. Parts are B/O for about 4 to 6 weeks. They will call me back when the parts will be available. No appointment possible for now (Gabriel Nissan du Plateau, Montreal)

Letter I received today from corporate said something similar. Just a heads up for you guys. Did a quick search on the forum and didn’t see any information other than the old takata recall.

Tldr. 40k units affected. Airbag harness connector issue, don’t slam the door.

Mods maybe send out a heads up to members in case they don’t get the letter? They can check their vin with their dealer.

Wow. First I’m hearing of this. My car is affected. So wait, if you are outside warranty period you have to pay and be reimbursed?!?

It's a safety recall, it is free of charge.

I called the dealership I bought my car from this a.m. and they told me to call them once a week and see when parts have an ETA. She said they're out "Canada wide" and have no clue when to expect any.

My dealership got the parts last week, work was done on Monday. So there is hope :D

I got mine done last Wednesday and the parts were two days away. They were ordered the previous Thursday.

Mine is in the shop right now. The Service guy said the parts are finally showing up and they have done about 6 vehicles so far .

I got the letter last month. Took it into Midway, but was told they didn't have the parts in yet and that I'd get a call back when the parts are in. Called a couple weeks ago, they're still waiting on a source to ship them

I wonder if this recall is related to the safety down grade.
Literally the airbags are what give this car it’s safe rating and if they don’t work then this cars basically 2 star front occupant 0-1 start rear occupant which is terrifying is a new car.

i doubt it, the recall is the rear bags go off when you slam the door, its OVER SAFE!!!!LOL

Got mine done yesterday. It took about 2 hours. I had initially called the dealer closest to me ( 10 minutes away )about a couple of weeks back and I was first asked if I bought the car from them, then I was told that the parts are on back order and Nissan Canada will call me when they arrive. I called Nissan Canada and was told that Nissan Canada does not call but if that's what the dealer said then someone will call ( I got the feeling that this was not going to happen). I then called the place where I bought the car from and they said they just got the parts and booked me right away, the only problem was I had to drive for an hour to get there. Anyways its all done now but I get the feeling the dealers don't want to deal with recalls if you have not bought the car from them.

You guys are lucky, they had no appointment available before april.. Sounds like it's just not a priority to them.

2 Weeks after mine got done. I got a call from the Dealership telling me my parts were in for the recall. Hmmm!

wow, I am afraid to bring my car to the dealer for this job. Airbags are important and what if they screw it up? How do we know that our airbags will work properly after this butcher job?

I got the letter and was scheduled to have this job done today but decided to wait for my vacations in june. I would very much like to see the job BEFORE they wrap it up and put the tape back. Also the calibration part is scary too...what if they forget to do that part? will the car behave normally?

I checked with the dealer and they will allow me to check the work as it goes. They said it takes 2 hours to complete.

So this morning the red airbag light came on....off to the dealer for the recall!..lets hope thats the probelm and not some 2000$ part!

the plug under the seat came disconnected when it got caught on junk under seat..problem solved
