Fuel injector cleaner
Has anyone considered using fuel injector cleaner. I have a 2015 S, and I'm at 230,000km. I've been doing mostly highway driving. Because on the amount of Km on the car, I'm wondering if I should start doing things over and above regular maintenance. I've read the reviews about fuel injector cleaner, the manufacturers don't like it but others do, any thoughts

I've been told by two engineers that design the gasoline for our Canadian fuel companies, not to use it. The gasoline has all the cleaner and detergents installed and adding anything to it will upset this balance. Would you add more ingredients to a cake recipe to improve an existing balanced one? This also applies to a high quality oil as well.

I've used it on and off on other cars as a preventative measure, i add gas line antifreeze as i worry about water building up in the tank, i think the gas has so much ethanol in it today i haven't put the gas line antifreeze in in years, i wouldn't add it , probably not worth the expense, i think if you just change oil and air filter, antifreeze and keep things clean there shouldn't be any EXTRA maintenance

I agree with the others here. Gasoline is full of detergents, nutrients & vitamins to help our little Micras grow strong. Plus you said you put on mostly hwy kms, as do I, so as long you’re maintaining your oil change schedule it would be a waste of money and potentially harmful to your injectors.

In the past 43 years I've been driving I've used it on rare occasions. Definitely not necessary on every tank but a dose every 6 months to a year I think would be plenty often. I've got some concentrated injector cleaner where you only add 1 oz per 10 gallons in my garage that I bought years ago and don't even remember the last time I put any in any of my vehicles. As others said fuel has additives and cleaners in it that should be sufficient. Some people here in the US insist on using top tier fuels, not me, I use whatever is cheapest and don't remember but one time since I've been driving having a fuel related problem. I guess it's been about 15 years ago one of my cars was running poorly and I'd got a tank with water in it. I ran that tank nearly dry and refueled and the problem was gone. Lots of people also change fuel filters every few thousand miles, not me. I had an '88 Ford Escort that when I retired it it had 518K miles (833K kilometers) and the fuel filter was changed 1 time. The reason it was changed that time is because that was the car that I got the tank of gas with water in it and first thought maybe it was a clogged filter but, even after changing the filter it ran the same until I refueled. If the car was sitting unused a lot I would recommend using fuel stabilizer, it does work and keeps the fuel fresh for months.
For years I changed my oil every 3K miles. For probably at least the last 10 years I've been letting it go approximately 5K miles and on rare occasions as high as 7-8K miles in one of my older cars. I don't have a Micra but a Versa and when I drain the oil at 5K miles if I get some on my hand it's still a dark honey color. Truth be known I'll bet it would be fine to let it go to 7500 miles. I use conventional motor oil. I've never used a drop of synthetic in any car I've ever owned and the '88 Escort went 518K miles without a rebuild. It was using quite a bit of oil but for the last 100-150K miles when it would get low I was pouring oil back in it that I'd drained out of my better cars when I changed it in them. I suspect the the rings were worn out but there was no knocking in the engine like the bearings were worn out. The engine was still running when I parked it. It just needed more work done to it than I wanted to do myself and I wasn't going to pay someone $50-$100 an hour to work on a car with over 1/2 a million miles on it.
If a person bought all the products they claim will make a car run better/last longer and did all the maintenance by the schedule the manufactures say he wouldn't have money to eat on.

Used Seafoam periodically as if I don't the car rattles at idle in gear at a stop light. My just former 2013 Scion Xb 2.4L does exactly the same thing. Did Nissan and Toyota develop the noise together? LOL
No idea where the vibration/rattle emits from on the car.

I think one of the problems is fuel efficiency. They have it dialed in as much as possible and so the cars, most noticeable in small four cylinders, have a very low idle. Cars used to idle at 1000rpm, now my micra turns at 600rpm. That’s crazy low.

Personally I use Lucas injector cleaner, fuel treatment. Put some in every tank. It gives a little additional go to the engine as well. That's what I do, it's my car. To each is own.
