Axle back exhaust group buy: for the people, by the people.

I'm going to put my money where my mouth is.

I'm going to a shop I know and have a axel back muffler system made to fit the stock mid pipe.

It will be a quality product and made to spec.

I will make a run of them by contract if there are enough people that want them.
I'm thinking minimum 10 preferably 20.
I can probably get the costs down a lot more with 20. And it would justify the jig and then make it easier to make more if needed.

Off the top of my head it would likely be in the $350 plus tax range. But don't quote me. I'll talk to them over the weekend and get back to you.

There will also be an optional mid pipe, Resonator delete.

This will make it drone and be louder.

My tip is 4"
for less touching of the rear fascia the 3.5" is a better oem style fitting.
Double wall 2.5>3.5" tip. (can be tinted blue but it voids the tips warranty FYI)
14" stainless steel muffler.
Packing to be determined.
Stainless steel inlet piping.
Flange to fit stock mid pipe.
Tig welded.

Optional extra
(added cost TDB)
(this will be made to order)
The extra mid pipe res.delete
2" cat back stainless steel.
Mandrel bent.
Tig welded.

And it will have a sound clip video.

Nismo style 3.5" tip
Stainless steel & ceramic fiber packed 14x9x5 muffler.

There are 2 shops that I have in mind.
One has been around scone 1999
The other was built be industrial professionals with a combined 400+ years of experience.

But let's looks at reviews.

Do your own research on these companies they will be ones producing this muffler system

What kind of muffler are you thinking (brand) ?

I have removed my cat-back straight pipe and it is now for sale: $450 as-is where-is.
With the tip $500. ( topical rust due to heating and cooling it's in perfect working condition )

The rear hangers are included. But needed to removed to remove / install. Install and labor is NOT included.
Any exhaust repair / custom shop can easily install this for under $150. If in Mississauga / Burlington I recommend budget exhaust or zoro muffler / solo performance.


I will be gettin more info about the axel back exhaust soon.

I will be making this soon.
I've got the stock exhaust back in place. So I can have the axel back made to fit the stock location.
Then I'll modify the cat back straight pipe I already have to fit the stock muffler and axel back muffler.

Now I have ( will have ) an interchangeable exhaust system.

I can pretty much guarantee that my "street version" axel back will sound amazing.

I can't help but wonder if my straight pipe helped influenced the micra cup to change.
Because from what I've seen there's a strong similarities. The street version doesn't sound as nice to me (imho)

I heard a raspy sound and it hit the ears wrong ( for me, personally ) the cup version definitely is noticeabley different.

Solo performance is the brand. They manufacture mufflers and systems in house.

I'm super interested in a custom 2" catback. The only problem is, where I live there isn't even an effing muffler shop... The last one closed down. Not that I was confident in their ability to make a good quality, well performing, custom catback.

I'd love to see one with a turn down muffler ;) Or the option to pick/send in your own muffler.

Obviously I'd prefer something higher quality but you get the gist of it.

We could work something out.

It comes built to spec.

So like everything is in it's individual parts. The axel flange and pipe to the muffler is pretty standard.
The muffler is the next piece. I think there are about 4 options that fit "OEM" size.
All with different attributes and sounds and and materials ( and sub-sequent costs )
And the tip.

I picked a tip that I like for my car. As a basic option I selected a tip that's similar to nismo.
But if yo would like it tip less and order your own tip just let me know.

I've been dying to get this going. I don't want to bug them and waste a bay testing sounds of the mufflers if I'm not buying it that day.
So I've been putting it off till I can actually have some time.

Do you know off the top of your head what the dimensions we have to work with for the muffler? I suppose I could go take some measurements this weekend but if you had them done up already I'm pretty lazy lol.

Were you given a guesstimate on pricing from the shop you're talking to? Any chance on a mid pipe as well? I don't really think an axle back is worth the time and money on its own. I'd like a header too but that Nismo one ain't cheap..

1. I believe 8x5x14 inches
2. I will be having an estimate for the mid pipe. It's an add on as not everyone wants it.
3. I believe ( don't quote me ) it's around $300 +/- for the axel back and probably another 300 for the mid. But we will see.
4. I believe there is an OBX header that could fit. No gaurantee.
5. I will say the the stock header and mid isn't bad. An is made by calsonic.
6. For the money invested to have a customer header back . You could buy the nismo titanium sports exhaust. Just saying...

True but the Nismo is only 1.2" ID if I'm not mistaken and that's pretty paltry for the $$$. Can't go wrong with a quality piece but flow is flow. I'm not sure what CFM our head flows but I'd put money on being able to take advantage of a full 2" exhaust with a free flowing CAI.

Tweeked out lawnmower.. it can do great things with such a small volume.

Hmm that's true. I'm not really sure what I was expecting tbh. It flows a bit less than a b16 head which is nearing a 30 year old design but of course fuel efficiency has improved immensely so apples and oranges I guess?

Guys are over complicating it, just get yourselves a proper Blitz Nur-Spec cat-back exhaust, call it a night.

If the right shop is doing the work, custom >= off the shelf.

Lulz. Anyone who has been into/around modding and tuning any platform would prefer a custom made catback purpose built for their car. You never see any highly tuned import that puts down real numbers running an off the shelf catback. It just doesn't happen. Especially if you want to extract every bit you can out of a small, naturally aspirated engine.

I get it you want to be mad JDM yo but you're just spreading misinformation.

Sure it's not going to matter for our little Micras for the most part but blanket statements like that are bad.
There are plenty of reputable performance shops that make far better custom tailored parts than off the shelf pieces. Unfortunately for us, most of them reside in the U.S.

That doesn't mean off the shelf parts are bad or poor quality or you shouldn't buy them or anything. It also doesn't mean that a custom exhaust from a random shop is going to be the best.

The best thing is to get something built for YOUR car and YOUR mods to meet YOUR build goals. Coming onto a thread about getting a custom exhaust group order up and saying "just get this" "established brands outmatches anything you could ever get made" is sheep mentality and pretty ****ty.

I'm not looking to make a race car out of my Micra, I have another car to build to try and go fast but having a unique piece with the exact muffler I want will be a nice addition and will be more meaningful to me at the end of the day.

I'm to lazy to even bother trying to argue here, just trying to showcase options. I just personality don't operate in the same wavelengths.

Sure I get it but saying a basic off the shelf part will be better than any custom exhaust by miles is just wrong.

It's nice that we have a few scarce options for our Micras (for a price) from overseas but I'd much rather see RnD go into our cars here in Canada especially where it makes fiscal sense. The reason why I go off-the-shelf in most cases is due to cheaper options being available over trying to get a part made to fit with no local availability and the cost usually doubling. Here it is the reverse.

Basic? Okay, I guess my exhaust is "basic" lulz. Let's see that unique "racing" exhaust on your Micra when it's done, I'll be sure to follow what you have planned for it.

I specifically said the opposite of that and not cuz race car but also yes, as in basic off the shelf bolt-on. Not speaking to the quality of the part, just what it is.

I want a streetable custom exhaust that sits between the one used in the Micra cup and something like the blitz or Nismo. Hence why I posted on the group order listing specifically for something like that.

It has to be made to fit. But yes. If you want to come down to Mississauga next week we can try some muffler types and see which sound you like best.

If that’s a little far I suggest going to budget exhaust in waterdown ...

And I apologize for the delay. Every time I try to commit to something that’s exactly when my life changes drastically

I will get this done when I can spend my money on it.

Alternatively, if you NEED it sooner and you’ve got a couple bucks around I could bring you to the shop with me and you could test the options with me. Leave with the one you like.

What diameter for the I hate my neighbors + optional midpipe? I was thinking a header + 2" catback would be perfect. Optional silencer would be nice. I run 2.75" on my acura with a slide in silencer. It's pretty ideal. If I had more disposable income I'd get one of those remote control setups.. Someday...

I’m using the 2” cat back str8 pipe I made before as mid pipe.
So this one will have a reducer at the axel point.
The muffler axel back will be made to be a direct fit to the OEM mid pipe.
And the so I’m fitting the muffler first then replace the mid pipe an making it match the OEM location.

This way the mid pipe can come in and out and the OEM muffler can too.
