Original equipment vehicle body sheet metal components are warranted to be free of “Perforation from Corrosion”, defined as rust through, from the inner surface to the outer surface, resulting in a hole. The duration of this warranty is 60 months from the warranty start date*.
not to split hairs because no one would do that, but the hole must rust from inner to outer (it did not do that).
The hole was also not the result of the rust, the rust was the result of the hole....one could argue.
also there are specific exclusions:
RUST/PERFORATION AND SURFACE CORROSION WARRANTIES Does Not Cover:•Body panel rust caused by lack of maintenance, abuse, or accident•Rust where paint has been damaged by stone chipping or debris from the road•Rust caused by environmental fallout, or, hail, tree sap, salt or submersion in water, sand or mud• Exhaust system components •Corrosion of outer trim parts , such as mouldings. However, corrosion of outer trim parts are warranted for 12 months/20,000 kilometres (whichever occurs first).
also since the car seems to have been exposed to salt and/or environmental fallout and we are unsure of maintenance, abuse, or accident the warranty is not useful....one could argue
but no one wants to be hit in the face with a wet, mouldy airbag in an accident!
Thats just wrong!...lol

Well so far the sealant appears to have stopped the water leak as the headliner is dry despite the recent rain & snow.
While at the dealership last week they planned to wash the car before returning it me but then decided not to since "your roof has a leak".
The Service manager had previously told me not to use duct tape as it could damage the paint.
So I was sent away with a leaky roof & told "they will get back to me"......Thanks!
I'm thinking the pin hole is not corrosion rather a poor sealant application at the factory that may have had dirt or debris lodged in it until recently. The roof seam is probably just spot welded together so it relies on sealant to keep the gaps sealed.
A hidden defect for sure.
Funny thing is I made sure NOT to buy a car with a sunroof as I've read many stories about soggy headliners due to blocked sunroof
drains & yet I still have a roof leak.

i think your right about it not rusting through but bad sealing. maybe the hole has now got big enough with the sealant drying out//bumpy roads, or you had it since day one. I think you've probably fixed it. Its debatable whether its worth trying to get the airbag replaced. i have a 97 prelude i chased body seam leaks for MONTHS before finally drilled 2 holes in the trunk like someone suggested. the seam sealer will eventually not be flexible and crack. (you'd hope more than 5 years!!!)

Just got a call from the dealer saying to bring the car back as repairs have been approved.
I didn’t ask a lot of questions, the booking person said about 2 hours needed.

Yay!.....the squeaky wheel gets the grease!.....or perhaps the leaky seam gets the sealant would be a better phrase......Nice to hear that Nissan is standing behind its product and fixing it.....

you shouldnt have aswered the phone...ask them that you want to see the mouldy, water soaked airbag they remove...or are they leaving you with that?
you should have asked more questions.

Glad to hear the company is going to look after you & thanks for documenting this in such detail. Hopefully it was a one-off manufacturing defect, but it may come in handy for other Micra owners.

If everybody would have posted and updated the case like OP did we all would have less trouble explaining dealership what went wrong and how it should be solved.

Agreed - I love it when we find out how the story ends.
Most regular members come back and report.
In my experience on forums, it's usually the new folks who sign up specifically to report or ask for help with some problem with the car that never come back to say how it was resolved.
