Kendal engineer prepares for 10,000 mile trek in a clapped-out Nissan Micra

James Nowell, a trainee electrical engineer ... is set to travel with two friends this summer 10,000 miles half way around the world in an 18-year-old Nissan Micra to raise money for charity.

Preparations for the Mongol Rally have included buying a car for just £320 and researching the best route, which will include travelling from London through Europe, Kazakhstan to the Siberian town of Ulaan-Ude.

I just wish they'd told us more about the car. Petrol or diesel?? Doesn't look clapped-out to me -- looks great for 18 years old. Mild UK conditions make 'em last. And owners there don't generally rack up the miles the way we do. Probably just a pensioner's car for the weekly run to the shops.
