It seems the Go is off to a great start:

Datsun has revealed that they have sold 2,072 units of the GO hatchback since the car was launched on March 19.

At a $5-6k price tag, I can see why they have sold quickly. (I used Google to convert rupees price in below link to dollars.)

This article helps explain the low price point:
Datsun Go launched at 3.12 lakhs

Think we could replace the Micra's Nissan badges with the Datsun ones?

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

I'm sure you could. How easy it is is yet to be seen. The Nissan emblem on the front grill is circular, where the Datsun is oval. Chances are its mostly molded into the plastic as that makes it less expensive to manufacture.

That's not a bad looking car, nice color too. For that market this car will work well - probably to compete with things like the Tata Nano. In a developing nation, having a car is a luxury, so one would think that keeping the model simple and the offering tasteful will entice more. Hyundai, Suzuki and Honda RULE in these nations with their offerings in the dimunitive class - so this will only give more options.

Unlike here in North America where we seem to change cars quicker than we change our attitudes - many of these consumers will keep these cars for a long time, and beyond their lifespan, but there is a growing middle class and they are hell bent on consuming so it could go either way.

A friend of mine had a Datsun 210 from 1981, and we used to LOVE driving that thing around and working on it and modifying it - great first car indeed. It lasted about 20 years before it had to go.......

I did not need to see that... ya but the Hyundai i10, VW Polo, and Ford Figo all get 0 starts too! 0 Airbags doesn't help.

here is the article talking about the crash test.

At least our car gets a 4 star in europe. probably 5 with the extra airbags

Oh, and it's not a datsun, but it might as well be. Nissan Tsuru. Looks like an early 90's sentra but is brand new.

I was all over this car, top and bottom, inside and out, and there really isn't much to the Micra. My advice would be to avoid frontal offsets at all costs.

I know, I know i was trying to convince myself otherwise. A buddy of mine leaned on the fender to smoke a cigarette and i had to bend it back into place after.
