    First discount/freebies I've seen advertised -- new Micra S for $8888??

This popped up in my Google alerts today -- the first time I've seen a discount advertised on a new Micra -- and on the base "S" in particular:

(Of course they show the top spec SR in the picture.)

Rendez-Vous Nissan is in Hawkesbury, in eastern Ontario.

For a limited time only, we're liquidating more than 20 2015 Nissan Micra S vehicles!!!

For as low as $10,998, this exciting offer includes 4 winter tires, a remote starter, as well as an oil change and tire imnstallation for as long as you own your Micra! HST and licencing extra.

so this confirms almost no one is buying the base 5MT? expected.

also, this is just me, but i never trust those 'free oil changes for the life of your car!"

theres always a catch from these dealers

I suspect the free oil change "catch" is simple: it ensures you keep coming back to the dealership for service, and when they spot other stuff that needs replacement, you just end up paying them to do it.

Or maybe the oil is free, but you have to buy the $39.99 filter.

It might be that the base model does not sell as well as they tought. I would never buy a car without AC, but that's me. Can't stand the heat and here it's hot and humid in summer so AC is a must. Ontario is the same or pretty close, so AC is not really a luxury.

OR... they are advertising a great deal because they know the majority of buyers won't accept a car without AC or automatic transmission. The special deal on the "S" gets them in the door, then they buy something with more bells & whistles.

I've only had A/C in 2 of my cars, BUT I don't commute in the city. For mostly rural road travel, AC isn't really necessary.

Plus everybody has different personal thermostats.

I'd be quite happy with a base Micra S. A LOT of forum members love the base S too:

I get the same feeling. There are asterisks/fine print we don't know about.

If I lived a bit closer, I'd be tempted to go in and find out.

I second the need for air conditioning. It was a nice enough day, but after a hard day's work, I found myself sitting on the Don Valley Parkway never getting out of second gear with the sun beating down and a noisy, smelly tractor trailer right at my driver's window. It sure was nice to roll up the windows to block out the noise and hit the A/C button.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

i consider a/c to be a safety AND convenience feature

it is the fastest easiest way to defog.
and if your body is distracted by tempeture discomfort, well, watch how you start to become careless on the road...
