It appears Hyundai is no longer content to let Nissan and Mitsubishi duke it out at the $9998 base price level...

A new promotional program by Hyundai to celebrate the signing of a Canada-South Korea Free Trade Agreement has seen the base 2015 Hyundai Accent L Manual (aka the “Quebec Special, with no A/C or other creature comforts) priced at $9,400, or $600 less than a base model Nissan Micra.

The big question (raised in the above article): will you actually be able to go into a Hyundai dealership and find one? At least Nissan dealers actually stock and sell the base $9998 Micra S.

Ugly as sin, I wouldn't consider it at any price, but this is really good news. Glad someone is stepping up to the plate, hopefully they're not an ''easy outer''' like the poorly run and brief Mirage campaign from last summer.

For me the issue is: it's the Accent sedan. I doubt I'd pull the trigger on a sedan over a hatchback, even for a few hundred bucks less.

And the 9998 Mirage price hasn't ended -- it's still on their website as of this AM. But you're right: Mitsu doesn't seem to have the cash or the gumption to proclaim it widely, loudly & proudly the way Nissan does with the Micra.

Another question: if lower tarrifs have really made it cheaper to sell Korean made cars here, will we finally see GM try to compete on price with the Spark? It's made at GM-Daewoo in S. Korea. Or are they content selling 27 of those a month, as they did in December?

Mirage still $9998? WTH? I did not realize that. Whitby dealer had rows of them not too long ago with windshield prices in the 12,xxx's
I remember when they ran the promo last summer and all the billboards (in the GTA) still has the $12xxx pricing! LOL!

Yeah, calling Mitsu's response a "campaign" is being kind. More of a "panic attack"?

    "ends March 2nd"

So it appears Hyundai doesn't have the heart to do this full time.

The latest ads I've seen have an expiration date for this promotion of March 2nd.

On the other hand, Mitsu is apparently offering the $9998 base Mirage deal for the whole 2015 model year.
