    TWO FOR ONE!

Apparently Toyota's next Yaris is going to be built alongside the Mazda 2 in Mexico and will use the same drivetrain. Probably the same platform...

Toyota will replace the mediocre Yaris subcompact with a new model that to be produced alongside the next Mazda 2, according to a report from Automotive News. This report says that Mazda’s new plant in Salamanca, Mexico, will produce around 50,000 vehicles per year for Toyota when the next-generation Mazda 2 begins production in 2015.

Let's hope for Mazda, the new 2 will be cheaper than the current two. Rechecked my spreadsheet and for a similarly equipped Mazda 2 GS vs my Micra SR I would be paying an extra $150 per month based on an $8,000 down payment and on 60 month 0% financing.

Toyota is really getting in bed with everyone it seems. Posted a thread in ''the lounge''' about a new MINI city car apparently to be built alongside a new concept Toyota calls Ayga.

The outlook for the year ahead in small cars is so dismal, Mazda Canada has announced it will not launch its redesigned Mazda2 subcompact until very much later this year or in 2016. The original plan was for a summer 2015 introduction.

    Mazda2 fuel economy revealed

EPA rates the 6 speed automatic 1.5L at:

    • City: 33 mpg US = 7.1 L/100 km
    • Highway: 43 mpg US = 5.5 L/100 km
    • Combined: 37 mpg US = 6.7 L/100 km

    The 6-speed manual...

    • City: 31 mpg US = 7.6 L/100 km
    • Highway: 42 mpg US = 5.6 L/100 km
    • Combined: 35 mpg US = 6.72 L/100 km

Those are really decent numbers. More gears FTW!

when the day comes when my micra has to retire, i'm planning either a mazda2 or 3 (likely a 3, but we'll see). Truly great cars. And their exterior beats everyone else in their class.

that is, unless i keep my micra for like a decade or more, in which case, ill be going EV by then.

First report I've seen on the 2 is a rave review:

...great to drive, the Mazda2 is an excellent little car. With a massive improvement in every area, the seven year wait for this new Mazda2 has been worth it.

Problem is: For the same thing that I have in my Micra, it would cost me quite a bit more for the Mazda 2. They are good car but you can't beat the Micra for quality, goodies and price. I would end up with a 21,000$ with only 15'' wheels, no rearview camera and no AC. Adding AC, 16'' wheels and rearview camera (if available) would probably bring the cost to me around 25,000$. My Micra was 18,000$ fully equiped. Nobody can beat that for now, plus it's a cute little car that is fun to drive. I am enjoying the twitch and swag in the traffic where most people can't get through.

micras certainly beat mazda when it comes to price vs features

the mazda however wins out in fuel economy, looks (subjective, of course), and 6 speed auto/manual.

Of course, by sheer mid-trim value, i've heard the fit is way up there.

Anyways, the sub compact and compact market is truly exciting. Let me tell you, today for the umpteenth time, i did a ****ty parking job. Yet just like before, i still pulled it off easily & was totes fine - thanks to the small size of the micra.
