It's for real! Low washer fluid warning!

After being disappointed by the lack of a cabin air filter (even though the housing remains), I started to have doubts about the low washer fluid warning light. Maybe it was just an empty impression on the dash, like how the cabin air filter was absent from where it belonged. It wouldn't be the first time; my Grand Am GT had impressions on the instrument cluster for the low tire pressure indicator, but GM deleted that after '99 to keep the Grand Am from being too competitive with the Grand Prix. In any case, the low washer fluid warning indicator light on the Grand Am was one of my favourite features I thought I might miss. I'm so happy that the Micra has this high end option!

The Grand Prix didn't have one of these? My 97 Sunfire had one... as I recall it was a pita because the sensor would occasionally trip the light and it took darn near a day for it go convince itself to go off again.

No, the grand prix probably had the low washer fluid warning light too. GM would take things away from the Grand Am to make it less competitive; in '99 when the new Grand Am GT came out, it had a tire pressure monitoring system that was simply computer code that used the existing ABS sensors built in the wheel bearings to determine if one tire was lower than the rest. After '99, they deleted that code and removed the lights, though the imprint was still printed on the instrument cluster. They also de-tuned the engine in the Grand Am GT; it made 175HP in the ram air intake equipped Grand Am GT, but the exact same 3.4L engine was rated at 185HP in the Pontiac Montana minivan.

If Nissan were like GM, the engine in the Micra would've been detuned to 100HP so as not to compete with the Versa, and we definitely would not have had the low washer fluid light!

What shocked my wife was that the low washer fluid warning light, which was in my 2002 Grand Am GT, was absent from our 2009 Pontiac Torrent AWD which cost us just over $36,000 with the options we selected. When she saw it come on in my Micra, she was stunned, and was also probably a bit jealous.
