    Whoa!

Sorry I missed this back when you made your uphill start post. For no-roll uphill starts: definitely DO NOT follow the advice in that wiki, beyond (1) the parking brake method.

The heal toe method (2) is what I use, but in a street car it is not done like that. You use the ball of your foot on the brake and rotate over your toes to operate gas pedal. Kinda hard to explain in words, but very simple in practice (and after a little practice).

The third method described will destroy your clutch prematurely.

I use method 4: Timing. I start backing off the clutch as soon as I take my foot off the brake and ease on the gas as the clutch engages. The car doesn't have enough time to start rolling back, unless it's a really steep incline, and then it might roll back just slightly.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

I go with method #4, too.

The uphill I'm waiting for is when the rain hits and it runs down the hill in the wheelruts. Been a rear wheel drive guy for awhile and am curious about hydroplaning in this scenario.
