Did the mechanism look custome? I've seen a similar setup for hauling a pair of snowmobiles.

I build and repair these types of systems. They are called roll offs and are made by a bunch of different companies and have various design differences. They are very popular with equipment rental companies.

You make these for pickups? I've seen roll-off beds on larger trucks (like flatbed towtrucks).
I have seen a few pickups with a similar setup as this, but with 2 snowmobiles side-by-side, not a small car!
