Don't loose too much sleep over it. It is still not clear if this issue is rod knock or just normal operation. I have over 31000 miles and little horsey is still going strong LOL. I might just be noticing more because it has gotten warmer here, and the sound is louder the warmer the engine is.

I have found that on a warm engine, the computer runs at an aggressive 48* timing advance in the RPM range where the knock happens. When the engine is cold it pulls back timing so the catalyst warms up faster. Also, these cars have knock sensors, so I would expect the check engine light to turn on if the engine did have a mechanical knock.

Also it's gets very noticeable. So when you do hear it you'll know. Also Nissan will change your engine for free. P.i.t.a yes but I doubt it will strand you anywhere, and if it does, you have Nissan roadside assitance. Dont stress. It will be fine

2080 Its not a big deal man. You have 100,000km warranty on it and even if your car needs a new one Im happy to report mine is still knock free thus far.

And I drove mine from ontario to Halifax NS, and back on it, plus a few months of local travel.

I took an oil sample and I should have the results back next week. Stay tuned.

I'm curious, how does one go about getting a sample tested?

You capture some in a container and mail it off to a lab to have it analysed. I've used blackstone labs numerous times in the past and their service is great. They'll ship you the container you'll use for free.

I'm closing in on 70,000 kilometers. Gently broken in, but not so gentle after that. So far, so good, should I knock on wood?

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

Probably your car also makes this noise and you have not noticed it. See, I didn't think much of the sound until I read this thread, but hopefully the oil analysis will help clear up the issue.

I have a fairly tame driving style and currently average 40 MPG US or 5.9 L/100 km, maybe I need to drive it harder. Nissan Versa GTR edition lol.

How much does the service cost?
