Thread: Problems ALREADY! (engine knocking at certain RPM - HR16DE - solved)

  1. #231
On the front, viewable from above, to the right of the oil filter.
Production date is on the information / complience plate on the "B" pillar between front and rear, on drivers side at the bottom.

Usually all bearings are the same. Some are location specific.

What makes cyl #2 different. Coolant.
Right beside #2 is the cold coolant enterance.
Which on a side note. Do we even have a water pump? Cause if we do thats an odd one.

And the block heater... Heats the hot side of the coolant. Where the thermostat is.

So wrappage could be the culperit. Now these engines are under torsion during milling, then the torquing of the head straightens the block. Wonder if that affects it?

Anyways, oil and coolant both seem to perfom actions at or about cyl#2
Maybe all those galleries and oficies affect the expansion and contraction?

Will check those new number later.
Problem according to the official report i post on page 18 i think says problem is a defective rod cap that interrupts oil lubrication between bearing rod and crank plus a wrong assembly.
Here in south america cars dont have that engine heater you are saying.
Engine knocks when cold or hot, but is more severe when hot.
Have tried on a friend march before he sold it using oil aditive to increase oil thicknes, we put 2 cans of more thick liqui moly and knock was almost the same, maybe when cold a little less but in a scale of 1 to 10
Noise came down from 3 to 2.5 lol
    And when hot the same.

Well my oil dip stick number is different.
    3HC
    #9C
What a shame anonymus was not able to check his old number.
    Please check the new one.
I will talk with the guy from colombia with the knocking engine and ask him to look for that number.
Also will ask guy from chile with no knocking engines to compare.
Remember this is 4 injector hr16
But we will se after more numbers are provided.

3HC #8C is the casting number of that part. They can refference that back to the matching mold if there is a defect in the mold.

Mine was also a 3HC #8C. In this case it doesnt seem to be a defect in the block, but more of the connecting rod bearing caps.

Spoke to a neighbour of mine who owns a JDM Silvia... He lent me some insight on how the engine numbers work.

    HR16DE *000000X

    HR (Engine family)
    16 (Engine displacement in decilieter)
    D (Dual overhead cam)
    E (Multiport fuel injection)

    00000 Engine serial Number

    X Revision

So if what he says is true, (completely possible. He's a bit shifty) then H revision engines would have come out then J models. I is skipped because its confused easily with 1.

Another theory he has is that it could be a year code. But as far as I know, they use the same system for blocks as they do for VIN's.. But if that were the case, we would have E and F years..

If all J engines were 8 injector models saying they came out later could be true.
But if you new engine is H that is not posible.
Your new engine is also #8c??.
I am waiting from those numbers from colombia and chile to compare.

all engines that have 'e' at the end should be multipart injectors, 2 per cylinder.. J's and h's are both 8 injector engines.

Otherwise it would be an hr16d engine.

I stand corrected.. some hr16de are singe injector, dual port and some are dual port dual injector. But all Canadian models should be a dual injector setup.

We might never know what the last digit of the engine serial number is... maybe its nothing at all.
