Reuters: Micra rear brake recall (not sure if Canada affected)

Just saw this - it doesn't say whether Canadian cars are affected:

[Nissan] is conducting a service campaign on 126,000 vehicles globally including the Micra and Sunny over a glitch in the rear drum brake.

The spring inside the brake could break and result in abnormal noise, Keeffe said. No accidents have been reported and Nissan will be replacing the spring in the rear drum brake, which will take about 20 minutes, he said.

With the car being manufactured in multiple factories for sale in ~160 countries, it probably only affects certain areas.

When I rotated my tires, I tried to take the drum off. No dice. Yes, I had the parking brake off, and I went at it with a rubber mallet, but it looks like one of those things that, once it's apart, the shoes might be damaged, so I thought it best just to leave them alone for now.

Perhaps this recall will provide me with an excuse to talk to the tech about it.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

Since I dont own one yet, I acnt tell but, if the drums have a removable dust cap in the center, it means that the rear wheel bearings are hold in the rear drums.
So to remove the drums, you'll need to remove the dust cap and lossen the nut that tie the wheel bearings.
