    Non-powered door locks. - ADVISORY

For all you people out there like myself that have manual locking doors....

You know that habit we have.. Open the door, use the finger to press the lock on the inside door handle to lock it. Get out and shut the door and walk away?

    DONT

For some reason, the door will not lock on this method. USE THE KEY TO LOCK THE FRONT DOORS.

When the door is shut, the door will lock just fine and cant be opened from outside, so dont worry about carjacking.

I believe they engineered this way so you dont lock the keys inside of the car... Which is kind of neat thinking.

Same thing with power locks...if I lock the doors with power locks then close the driver's door, it becomes unlocked, so this isn't just for non-powered door locks.

This is how I do it...(been doing this for so many years...) lock from inside hold the outside handle in unlock position and shut the door and it will lock. This method works for both front doors. For the rear doors just lock from inside the shut the door.

hyedegha - you beat me to it. I do that all the time too.

Of all the cars I've owned, I think only 2 of them have had power locks.

I just made an interesting discovery. My father used to own a Nissan Stanza, and he recalls how convenient it was for him to be able to unlock all the doors when he used the key to unlock the driver's door in those pre-keyfob days. I experimented. When I use the key to lock the driver's door, it locks all the doors. When I turn the key to unlock, it unlocks the driver's door...but if I turn it in the unlock direction a second time, it unlocks all the doors.

    Very cool.

I believe this only works if your car is equipped with power locks if you have manual locks I think it doesn't work ...
