After looking at the link I posted again I think the D represents DOHC and the E represents port injection. So the fuel would be injected before the valve. There are two injectors per cylinder though, one at each intake valve.

the micra IS NOT Direct injection GDI...so carbon buildup wont be a problem...better than a horse!(the horse could get clogged arteries or bronchitis)
