    Micras - they'll last forever

One of the main reasons I want a Micra is the fact that these cars can last forever. Not every car will. Case in point, my father's 2004 Ford minivan just recently blew its head gasket at 350,000km, and the engine promptly self-destructed. Some cars, like my '02 Grand Am GT, just aren't fuel efficient enough to make them worth repairing.

I recently posted about the nearly everlasting Micra. Here are the inspirational videos of a '94 K11 model used for everyday driving and travelling around Europe:

It gets repaired to live on!

Here's a nice video of someone cruising around in a K10 Micra. Remember, the last K10 was built in 1991, and this video was posted on February this year. The car runs remarkably well.

I wonder if that '94 was petrol or diesel... the European Micra got its first diesel engine option in the K11.

I got an answer. He has the "Lowly" 1.0L petrol engine; no diesel. I'm jealous; why can't we get a 1L engine?

Hi there. The video above of the K10 is mine, someone commented on my video and said you guys were asking about my car so I thought I'd join up and answer any questions you might have.

Hi there, Ryan - that's cool that you joined up.

Congratulations on your Micra lasting so long!

I've got a couple of questions...

Have you had to do any engine work at all? Also I'm curious if you have another car, or if the Micra is it.

Oh, wait: thought of another one. Have you driven the K13? If so, what did you think?

    cheers-
    Darin

Thanks, no, no engine work at all, it only has 56k Miles on it and runs perfectly smooth, my friend owns one with 70k and it runs just as smooth as mine.

The K10 is my only car, it's the 2nd car I've owned.

I've never driven a K13, we have had them in the UK for a while but I find it's mostly elderly people that go for them.

Thanks, Ryan. Feel free to ask anything else, I could talk about my car all day!

Ooops - my mistake. I thought your Micra was the one that's gone 600,000 km.

56k miles on a K10 is remarkable on the other side of the spectrum: very low miles for its age!

You confirmed the K13's UK stereotype I've picked up on following news/tweets about the car on your side of the pond. Pensioner's car?

Yes very much so, because it's a small, economical, easy to drive car that will last for years and years.

It's the same demographic that also applied to the K10 back in the 80's/90's which is why most of the K10s you see have low mileage, because little old Margaret wanted a small car to pop to the shops in every now and then, which meant they were well looked after and don't have a lot of miles on them.

I bought mine from an elderly woman that bought it brand new back in '92 and had been the the only owner right up until I bought it off her last year.
