Micra fuel economy improving in warm spring weather

I see from our fuel economy log that the "winter blahs" are finally over. Mileage is improving!

    We bottomed out this winter at 6.9 L/100 km (41 mpg Imp = 14.5 km/L = 34 mpg US).

This week the fleet average improved slightly to 6.8.

    13
    Micras
    129
    fill-ups
    56,942 km
    35,382 miles
    6.8 L/100 KM 41.6 MPG (UK)
    14.7 KM/L 34.7 MPG (US)

And it should just keep improving... at least until "air conditioning season" arrives... for those of you equipped with such luxury.

Huh! I noticed the same thing, but I thought it was just a placebo as I had a wheel bearing just replaced. (Front left, a fluke I guess)

Using the AC makes a difference for sure. Last week we had record high temperature of 30C and I had to use the AC a lot all week. I lost .5 liter / 100km.

I removed the records for the winter from my fuel log because I thought it was misleading to have 10L/100km. This past winter was well below normal temperatures for 3 months straight and that really affect the average fuel economy readings.

Oh, you should have left them.

It's useful to show people what happens to consumption when it gets really cold, to see the graph. And that's 2 record-breaking cold winters in a row in our area. Maybe the new normal. (I hope not!)

Nah, it gives a very wrong impression of what the micra consume in gas. I will leave it next winter as the summer average will balance it out better. I got my car in october and it was already cold, so there is no summer readings yet.

I surely hope we're not turning into a second north pole. I spoke with a specialist in plants and he said last winter Montreal was not zone 5 anylonger but like zone 3 for the temperature. We lost a few plants and had many pipes burst open, no water for a few days and the road is still not fixed. It's the second very cold winter but this last one was a pain.

Today we had a micro-tornado and I am waiting for my friend to help me lift my BBQ back up because it fell on its side and it's freaking heavy, like 150 lbs!

The micra was not too bad on the highway even whith such winds.

    Nice!

    Conversions for others....
    3.8 L/100 km = 74 mpg (Imp.) = 26.3 km/L = 62 mpg (US)

Was this for an entire tank? One trip? Can you give us some context, eg: travel speeds / urban / ex-urban driving?

I think we need a "personal best tank/trip fuel economy" thread.

Don't orget, I drive the K13 1.2L, not the 1.6L These small 3-cylinder engines are very economical. The 1.2L with supercharger (98bhp) will do even better.
My trip was on a long 80km/h road with hardly any traffic, I used cruise control and no AC. Cruise control was set at 80km/h.

And probably not many hills on your route.

I never forget that we don't have the option of the 1.2L here. I would love to try it, especially the supercharged one.

I'll be able to do a comparison at 80 km/h with the 1.6L and no A/C this week (also no cruise control). I'm borrowing a base Micra S.
