    Serpentine Belt Tension q/a?

So my serpentine belt gave out and a new one is installed. How is everyone checking for proper tension. It is currently on but it makes a chirps sound upon start up. Do I keep tightening until the chirp goes away?

Don't forget to tighten that locking nut to 26 foot pounds after when done

Check tension by pressing the belt between pulleys 3 and 4 in the picture. There should be no play if you are pressing with hand from the bottom…well 4mm with 100nm its almost no deflection.

Or if you want to do it scientifically right then attach 10kg weight right in the center of the belt between 3 and 4 pulleys and hold ruler vertically and measure deflection it should be ~4mm as per spec. If it will be too tight then you are risking ruining idler pulley if its too loose then belt will burn and possibly burn pulley bearings too.

    2015 Micra S (manual)
    no A/C /no power options/ block heater/4x 2 Ohm speakers...all factory stock in 2015
    Feb 2015 build
    9,999 purchase price + tax..no additional 1600$ because it was a 2015 purchased in 2016
